View Full Version : Does your Marauder do this ???

I'm sorry if this sounds like a rant, but it isn't meant to be one.
I've got a couple things I was wondering about, :dunno:
and I'd thought I'd ask if you have the same experiences...
Motor Oil Dip Stick... :dunno:
Manual says 6 quarts Motor Oil with filter.
Put in 6 quarts with filter and start engine.
Stop engine and wait 15 minutes.
Pull dipstick and read.
Is the stick marked MIN and MAX for a reason, or is FORD just stupid enough to put it in the WRONG PLACE ???
It always reads BELOW MIN, with all 6 quarts in there...
Door Locks... :dunno:
Lock/Unlock, they should make simple sound.
At times each one of my doors seems to make s sound as if there is a gear
slipping in the mechanism, or it just resetting itself - as it locks/unlocks.
Happens randomly and has happend to each door...
Rotating sound after shutdown... :dunno:
This one I can't put a finger on. I've never experienced this with any other vehicle with an automatic transmission.
I get home, park in my driveway, tap the gas and turn off the ignition.
The engine dies and everything goes silent except for the sound of something spinning down to a halt.
Is there something in the transmission still spinning ?
Is it the Torque Converter still spinning inside ?
Subwoofer...
I fixed the rattle, but now it wants to play when it feels like it.
If I hit a solid bump, it will turn off, next bump, its back on.
I checked the connectors on the amp and the box, both are tight and the wires aren't broken.
My next thing it to make a radio removal tool from a wire hanger, and check the plugs behind the radio.
Emergency Brake...
Is it there for decoration, or is it supposed to NOT work ???
Because if its only decoration, I'll put a Aluminum pedal on it, bend it towards the brake pedal,
apply it, and call it my new DEAD PEDAL !
My driveway is inclined, and I back in with the trunk down and the nose up.
I apply the EM Brake, shift to N, and release the brake pedal.
Is the Marauder suppose to roll all the way down the rest of the driveway ? :mad2:
I've had the damn thing adjusted twice, and it holds for all of ONE WEEK !
I'm ready to take the rear end apart myself, and find out what's not working...

Rotating sound after shut down, yes. Subwoofer, just low quality rattles. Not the brake though, but you're right, when it is down it makes one sturdy dead pedal.

Had that sound with my CVLX. Was going to get the passenger door lock motor changed under warranty, 'cept I got the Marauder before that.

Had the rattle. Not sure if it's actually working right now 'cause the rattle's gone. I'll check tomorrow.

Motor Oil Dip Stick:
Mine takes just under 6 quarts (maybe 5.9?) to the top of the crosshatched area...
Door Locks:
Haven't heard any strange noises...
Rotating sound after shutdown:
Yes, it's the radiator fan...
Subwoofer:
Other than the rattle, no problems...
Emergency Brake:
Always worked fine...
I have noticed my emer brake pedal is damn near touching the floor when set, it does hold, but I practically shove myself thru the seat to do it.

Emergency brake is a joke!!
If you take the rear brake rotor off you will notice a VERY SMALL drum brake in the center....THAT'S WHY IT DON'T WORK TOO GOOD!!! :o
As for your other maladies.....I have not experienced them with mine!!

My drivers door lock actuator is on it's way out.
Started hearing a buzzing/grinding type noise when locking, just after 4200 miles.
A new one is on order under warranty.

As Far as the Oil I heard in these engines you should put a 1/2 a quart more then what the dipstick says is full. Due to oil slosh and the lack of baffles in our oil pans, the extra 1/2 quart maintains lubrication to the heads under hard acceleration and braking.

Subwoofer, I had this problem. There was a wiring harness visible from under the center pod/radio/HVAC control stack. I pushed it back under the plastic to hide it. The next time I drove the car the subwoofer had quit. I checked in the trunk, nothing loose. I remembered the harness up front, bingo. Made sure all the wires were tight and no problem since. To solve the rattle the I used plastic packing tape to secure every wire in the rear of the passenger compartment behind the seat. Cranked down the subwoofer box and removed the insulation pad from the woofer opening. No rattles anymore, well worth the time spent.
Oil, I just did a change last weekend. Let the engine warm up, dip stick reads low. Grabbed a qt of oil, stopped at Micky Ds. Rechecked the dip stick before adding more oil and the thing now reads full. WTF???? You got me.

FoMoCo has always not accounted for the 1/2 - 3/4 quart of oil that the oil filter contains. If you don't pre-charge the oil filter ( i.e. put 1/2 - 3/4 quart of oil in it before installing it ), the dipstick will usally read 1/2 quart low.
BTW ... Have been pre-charging oil filters for over 30 years to minimize dry starts; a lot of folks say why bother and it's a waste of time, but it certainly doesn't do any damage. :D

Suspect that it's the electric cooling fan winding-down at shut-off.

A couple of times I backed down my driveway and forgot the parking brake was set until I put it in drive and it popped off. I experimented and finally did get the car to not roll back when in reverse with the brake set, but I had to push the emergency brake pedal down about as far as it would go.
I still think it's problematic though, so now I just chicken out and back into the driveway and set it, as I know it will reset for me when I put it in drive.
You would think it would just as easy for the Ford engineers to make it go off in reverse as well as drive. (?)

My Emergency Brake works fine. Push it down and the car will not move. The Driveway is also on an incline and I back up into the garage. I apply the E-brake to open the garage door and usually forget to disingage it before I start to back in the garage and the car will not move. Have it looked at under warranty.

Yes to all!
Except the Emergency brake cable.
Probably cause I don't use it.

My sub only rattles with heavy bass/doesn't cut out.

I recently found that my e-brake is no longer connected....
Something must have come apart in the brake assembly in the rear.

I brought my car into the dealer to see about the emergency brake issue. I would have to engage the pedal to the floor to make it hold. They checked it out and said that nothing was wrong and it's adjusted to " proper spec". :bs:
Power locks work fine, for now. Subwoofer is OK, could be better.

Rotating sound after shutdown...
I was told by the dealer that is the auto load leveler.
