My "Check Gas Cap" light came on a couple of days ago. So, I reseated it and the light went out. It came on again yesterday. I've tried reseating, checking for debris or something, no joy. I'm still under warranty but I don't really want to go to dealership. Anybody else experience this and if so what was the cure? Thanks for all input.

More than likely its seeing a P0442 (Evaporative Emissions Leak, Small) so you either have a bad gas cap seal, or an evap hose somewhere thats kinked, broken, or disconnected. Eventually, the MIL will light up if this isn't fixed. Go ahead and have it checked out. The will have a smoke machine that pushes smoke into the evap emissions system, and they can usually find the leak within an hour.

Might just be a faulty gas cap seal.

Good luck.

When my Gas Cap light came on it was a hose.

It happened to me awhile back, too.
It seems I had the MM.net gas filler bib installed in such a way that the cap did not seat properly. No problem, no charge and they put a new cap on it for me.
Oh, the bib does not interfere now.

I accidentally left my cap loose a couple of weeks ago and drove the car for quite a while before noticing, and the gas cap light never came on. (?) I then deliberately left the cap not just loose but completely off and the fuel door open, then drove it for about 3 miles and the light still did not appear.

Is there a delay before the warning light kicks in, or should I violate my personal policy and take it back to the dealer?

Thanks for any info.

Regards,

Norm

I had a 2000CV that would shut the engine down if you removed the gas cap while it was running???

I figured it was to keep you from filling up with the engine running!! :bows:
