Well, I went out to wash my car and give it a little waxing on my
day off today. I was giving it a wipe down when I noticed the roof....The paint on this 300a seem like it gets worse and worse! :mad2: When I first<?xml:namespace prefix = o ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-com[img] />

bought the car it had 3 white dots "acid rain" I was told. Now there are 5.

AND! it looks like clusters of little spots where the paint seems pitted. I知 absolutely pissed. I know the paint on this car is :censor: up! Each wipe of the roof with the gloss enhancer I get more and more aggravated. The little white dots "acid rain"; if you look at the spot it has little cracks running in it...anyone else suffer from this? This is my third black car and never had this problem so Acid rain is not a factor....

So Next Monday I知 going to the dealer to get the steering wheel replaced under warranty and to tell them I知 leaving my car in your lot till you fix the paint. AH now I feel a little better :alone:

I have noticed a couple tiny white spots on my hood, and it is clearly not acid rain or bird doody.

I washed and waxed mine for the first time this weekend. My paint is awful. I have dozens of white specs. Some places where it's bubbled. Terrible orange peel around the fog lights including drips.
I have a year of warranty and I'm going to be requesting new paint as well.

Black cars are beautiful when clean and the paint ain't blemished!! :bows:
I had a black car once and would not buy a MM until they were offered in other colors...I could have gotten an '03 black one locally for $25K (new) but not black!! :o
My silver one has no apparent paint flaws...just a few nicks and dings but you really can't see them on silver!!
Marauderjack :D
I have a '03 Black MM. I had the exact same issues with the paint "popping" on all the decks (trunk, roof, hood). I also had trash under the paint on the sides in different areas. The first time I took it in the Service Manager insisted that it all could be buffed out and that it's acid rain. I knew he was wrong but played anyway. I took it to three different shops. They all said the same thing, you can't buff that out, have to repaint it. Took it back with this info in hand. They finally had a FORD rep come out and inspect. Imagine the suprise when he said it had to be repainted. The dealer uses a local shop to do this type of work. I met with the owner and Head painter who would be doing the work. I showed them all the problems with the paint. They ended up taking all the trim off, windows out, door handles off, you name it. I also got them to shave off the rear Badge and had them put 4 different colors of pearl (blue, emerald green, white and copper) in the clearcoat. Well, the car is now black with now problems and when the sun/light hits it all that pearl really dances on top of the black. For a 35K car, that factory paint was just horrible. I would highly encourage you to be persistent and get this taken care of while under warranty. Maybe did what i did and collect some documented opinions from local shops. Good luck.

THANKS A HECK OF ALOT for bringing this back up...got my blood boiling again...I only wish I had 5 spots...no help from my dealership...none...nada...zer o...zilch...will have to have mine painted within the next year or I will have major issues...out of my pocket no less...willie
My current '04 Mm is my 4th black car in a row. I love the way they look when they're clean but black shows up the imperfections more. My '88 Camaro was terrible and i wound up having it repainted. :censor:

When I sold my black 88 Camaro, I swore I wouldn't buy another black car. Then I bought my black Marauder.
The Camaro had rear tires on the front, and stuck out from the fenders. Both doors (but the passenger side was worse) got sandblasted. Light grey primer looks white when it shows through black paint!
I'm saving up to get my MM painted Blue.

PAINT ISSUE AGAIN!
This is all so true. Dealer blames Acid Rain, Bird Poop. I must have complained to the dealer at least 10 times now. I think we should do what "crom" did and get this documented and get as many "professional paint shop" 2nd opinions as possible, get a Ford REP and also get Lemon Law involved. We should all visit the dealer and do this on the same day NATION WIDE. Eggie

Good luck! Central Florida Lincoln Mercury Has told me there is nothing they can do for me cause the rep refuses to even look at my car. Something about a photo filing policy where they have to submit digital images. I'm going to start calling the 800 number and complain. I say everyone with an 03 in the central florida area get together and bombard one dealer at the same time and demand action. Anyone interested PM me and I will help to organize it.

It's obvious there's a problem with SOME of the Black MM's, and SOME dealers have done a very good job of resolving the issue. Sure you're pissed, all of us are, as this should never have happened, to any car, no matter the cost.:bs: (don't even ask about our '93 T-Bird). If it's acid rain, then why isn't the problem showing up with other colors?
Here's my take on it: some dealers have fixed the problem, and some have not. It would seem there's no set policy, as far as dealers are concerned, but you can be sure the DSO's AND Ford Motor Company have a "will paint" policy, since SOME of the cars have been repainted.
Here's what I think all of you guys with bad paint should do. Gather as much data you can, by searching the paint threads, and poll the guys to see which have been successful, which dealer they used, how they went about it, collecting any documentation you can. THEN, and only then, go to the dealership of your choice, and bury them in facts, documentation, reason, and argue from a position of strength. If you go in angry, you could end up starting a pi$$ing contest, which in my experience, nobody wins. :puke:

The acid rain issue is a cop out for the dealerships.Ive seen acid rain damage.Afew good waxings with a good wax prevents damage. And I know you all wax more than twice a year.

I had a black '84 Dodge Daytona and after the paint problems I had with it, I swore I'd never own a black car again. For one thing, black gets so hot in the summer sun that water spots get burned in and have to be professionally polished out. When I learned that the 2003 Marauder was offered in dark Blue, I jumped on it, and I'm glad I did.

The problem with the paint is a simple one and FORD knows the answer.
When the car was painted at the factory, it was painted by robots.
The robots were programmed to wash the spray jets with lacquer thinner after each car was painted.
When the next car body came down the line the robots had to spray paint through the sprayer to blow out the lacquer thinner.
The problem is that the programmer, who probably programmed our cars, didn't allow enough time for the paint
to spray through the line and blow out all of the lacquer thinner.
So the end result was our Black cars were sprayed with a layer of thinned out paint mixed with lacquer thinner,
and that damaged the paint mix so when it cured, it was soft, thin and brittle.
Add that to the Clear Coat that was also laced with lacquer thinner, and it all adds up for a disastrous paint job.
The dealers won't own up to it, because they don't know anything about it.
You have to get a Field Service Manager to inspect your car, and before he does,
get a well known body shop to document your piss poor paint job.
Preferably the body shop that does your dealership's work, or one that your dealership HIGHLY recommends...
You don't have to use them for the repaint, you just need them for the documentation and repaint estimate.
You can get any shop to repaint your car, as long as the estimate you get is fairly accurate.

Heh heh heh...chuckle chuckle chortle snort.
He said "doody."
:D
I have noticed a couple tiny white spots on my hood, and it is clearly not acid rain or bird doody.
Doody seemed like a safer word that ****. I forgot to mention my MM is blue, so the white spots are not a problem specific to black MM's. I should try and count them now, and see if it gets worse before brefas. I mean before my warranty expires.

Great post, Pete, and a good start on the "information package" we need to put together and resolve this issue in our favor.

Different dealers read the paint differently. My 2003 300A purchased in Vermont this January looked the same way. The exact same description that you have above. I took it to my local Ford dealer here, they ran it thru the body shop and warranty repaint, no questions asked. (of course they did scuff my window rubber trim with the buffer but that is subject for another time)

So I think it is a matter of cultivating the dealer a little bit. That or come on down to Arizona and get it fixed.

Ah Finally some good news on the matter. You gave me a little confidence
on the matter. I will be going to my dealer on MONDAY to confront them on
the matter. Hopefully they will be more like your dealership and do the right
thing, otherwise off to Arizona
;)
