OK Folks,

20-22 May we're looking at having a MM rendezvous in Cedar Falls, IA. We have a block of rooms assigned to us at the Days Inn and Holiday Inn University Plaza (they are both owned by the same person). Maria with Holiday Inn sales office has set aside 13 rooms with the Holiday Inn and 12 rooms with the Days Inn. You have to mention room block code "MMR" to be put into one of our rooms. Maria has sent me a list of names who she thinks may be part of our group but hasn't been assigned to the MMR block. If you have made reservations for this event and your last names are listed below, please PM me so that we can get you coded into are block of rooms.

HwyCruiser has a poll asking how many are planning to show up, currently there are nine committed and 3 possibles. If you haven't voted please do so at:

Duhtroll, who lives in the Cedar Falls area has provided info on the local Cedar Falls Raceway. There appears to be interesting schedules at the raceway which are listed below:

May 20 Friday Night Test and Tune/Gamblers/Trophy ~ Gates @ 6pm
May 21 First Annual Free Fest $10.00 to watch or Race!! Gates 1 pm

This is what we have so far.

Regards,
Jay

I should be able to make it, about 90% certain. I am waiting on a customer to back to me to establish whether or not I'll be in town that Friday.

That being said, I think there was some discussion about the Kansas City area owners meeting up that Friday to head down to IA. Have we established a time and place yet? If not, probably somewhere up north would make the most sense. Maybe the McDonald's in Kearny? I think there's one there right off I-35 on the East side. Anyone have any suggestions?

FiveO confirmed via PM so that makes 10.

A rough plan for my trip from KC: I'd like to meet up with Jay in DesMoines around noon for lunch, so that puts me in Kearney at 9am if anyone would like to hook-up for the trip north. On the road from DesMoines by 1:30pm would ETA us at the hotel in Cedar Rapids just before 4pm.

For the Cedar Rapids crew: Would the hotel be a meeting place to head off to the track? What time would we need to leave by?

Come On You MM'rs from MN, WI, IL, MO, IA, KS, and NE,

The Cedar Falls MM Rendezvous the 20th through the 22nd of May is fast approaching. There are still rooms available under our "MMR" code at the Days Inn and Holiday Inn in Cedar Falls. What better way to have fun on a Spring weekend than a road trip to meet other MM'rs in the HEARTLAND. Phone numbers for the hotels are in the my first entry within this thread.

We will lose the room BLOCK after the 20th of this month, so don't delay.

I'm flexible on that Friday. Do you have a suggestion? I was thinking that we could meet up somewhere and convoy up there. Don't know how many from Kansas City area are going. Any ideas?

Val,

Jay probably won't be rolling through DesMoines until about 2:30pm and I'd like to pick him up in-route. That'll get us in Cedar Falls just before 5pm for check-in, which is about as late we probably want to get there (Jay, you better be hauling butt to get us in earlier).

DesMoines is a good 3-1/2 trip from south KC so now I'm thinking about getting on the road no later than 10am so we could grab a late lunch in DesMoines while we wait for Jay and allow for what-not delays.

Casey (MercDaddy) is going, but I don't know what his plans are. Maybe he can chime in here too.

Has anyone contacted CFR to see if they can do anything for us?

Any idea on time for lunch. I am thinking about taking a half day of work on Friday. Even though I live North of Ames, I work in Des Moines. Also taking Friday night and Saturday afternoon off from the part time job. Will be heading to Cedar Falls first thing in the morning on Saturday.

Obviously won't be in a Panther/Marauder, but I think I get the wife's Ford Five Hundred from her for the day. What are the plans for first thing Saturday morning?

I'm still planning on going. I won't know what time I can leave work until I see how things unravel during the day Friday. Hopefully I can leave by noon, which would get me to Cedar Falls by 6PM at the latest. I have accomodations a Casa Papa's.

If nothing else, I'll run out to the strip Friday night to see if anybody is there, otherwise I'll see you all Staurday out there. Anybody that wants to meet before then can send me a PM with their cell number and we'll make arrangements.

Looking forward to it, should be a great time!

Thanks Casey, Cedar Falls yes. I get the two confused. Nothing but cornfields between here and there... I'll be bringing a map.

Eric, I'm probably going to be in DesMoines around 1:30pm to fuel up, grab a bite to eat and watch for Jay. Will have to figure out where.

Question, does all the gasoline in Iowa contain a percentage of Ethanol, like it does In Minnesota which is 10%?

Warning, If you are travelling from a state where your MM has not been using Ethanal as part of it's daily diet, then we should be having a discussion (a possible new thread) concerning possible ill affects this could have on your MM. Our cars mybe too new to be concerned with here but early on durning the introduction of ethanol in our state alot of cars suffered from clogged fuel filters and fuel injectors.

Please chime in with your 2 cents worth and let's think about discussing this in another forum.

Corn, it's whats for dinner..........for your MM.

Not everyone has Ethanol in their premium, but I run it exclusively and have had zero problems. All cars manufactured are approved for fuels that have 10% Ethanol blends.

Qwik Star here has 93! Runs great!

John

Eric91Z
04-26-2005, 02:28 PM
It seems to be hit and miss on the premium around for which ones have ethanol and which don't. Almost all "mid-grade" have Ethanol and then the regular unleaded usually does not. And a lot of smaller towns don't even have a premium option beyond the 89 or 90 which usually has 10% ethanol in it.

That being said, I run the mid-grade with ethanol in my '92 Honda Accord which is my daily driver with no ill effects so far and still get about 30mpg on average per refill. Then again, I do about 500+ miles per week so I am filling up about every 3-5 days. I have heard ethanol can be a problem in cars where it is allowed to sit and can get water/moisture in the system.

I also run 93 ethanol in my MM exclusively - no problems at all with the gas.

Wal-Mart gas also just got 93 ethanol so there are 2 places here with relatively low prices for 93 octane.

Yup!

I believe that Hwycruiser is to meet with Jay for lunch in Omaha. I had made a suggestion about meeting up at the McDonald's in Kearny which is right off I-35. Based on his reply, that would mean that we should meet up right around 9:00AM.

Does that work for everyone?

P.S. For the KC folks, Don't forget that the Paseo Bridge will be closed starting May 17th.

To the KC Folks,

HwyCruiser is planning to meet up with me and the misses at a Wendy's on the North Side of Des Moines. It would be out of your way to come thru Omaha, letting you cruise up I35 and me cruisin across I80 will be the easiest. Since we won't be able to leave the Omaha area until noon, we're planning to meet up sometime after 2PM on Friday at the Wendys. Below is what I sent to JD a few days ago via PM:

JD, For Friday the
20th, let's plan to meet at the Wendy's on the North side of town. As your going East on the North side of the I35/I80 loop take Rte 28 South and it's right there on the left side. You will have to go to the next light and turn left onto the access road. Jay

Val,

Meeting up at the Kearny's McDonalds at 9:00AM Friday morning, May 20th, sounds like a good plan. We'll have at least an hour to grab lunch at Wendy's in DesMoines and maybe run through a car wash. I don't think Greg will know if he's going to make it for sure until probably the night before.

Eric,

We'll be at the Wendy's at I-35/I-80 and Rte 28 south (4935 Merle Hay Rd) in Des Moines around 12:30PM if you want to meet up for lunch.

You won't be left out of the fun just because you don't have a car to run. One of the reasons I like CFR is that they will let you take riders. You have to make a solo run, but I'm sure there will be someone willing to let you ride shotgun for a pass  .

I wouldn't go down the track without one, but I think at CFR you only need one if you are 11.49 or quicker, that is the break point at an IHRA track for hardtop cars needing a 6 point cage.

Let's do this...
I'll get the burgers and dogs ready for a Friday night Grilling at my place.

The Friday Nite Test-n-Tune gates open at 6pm and I'd like to get there before 6:30pm. Anyone can show up at the house from noon-6pm for food, oil changes, car washes or whatever you want/need.

There are several places we can go after the track that night and Andrew and I will come up with a plan (we think!!) and get ready!

I still have one unaccounted for spare bedroom at the castle in case someone didn't get something booked...

Cheers!

We are leaving the Twin Cities at 1 PM so we should be there no later than 4:30 or 5 PM and will check into the hotel first, then I'll head to your place. I assume there is an address or map to your place posted somewhere within this post?

We are leaving sometime Saturday afternoon to get back to the kids...don't want to leave them with Grandpa and Grandma too long :)

Any ideas on what the weather is supposed to be like Friday/Saturday?

duhtroll
05-17-2005, 06:05 AM
That's a sick question around here. Our weather folks here in IA have a penchant for saying "sunny today," and then you look out the window and it's pouring.

Every day for the past month they have said "chance of rain," or some variant thereof. For this weekend it sez "partly sunny" and "mostly cloudy" which I believe are the exact same thing.

Tellya what. I want a job in meteorology, where I can be wrong all the time and still get paid.

Everyone check kwwl.com (local tv station) or any of the national/regional weather sites and you will have the same information that we do. At least the weather guy there currently is honest and said one evening "you know we get a lot of complaints about not being accurate on predictions a week in advance, and the truth is we just don't know until about 24 hours in advance wht things might do, and even then it's sometimes risky."

What a job.

Personally, I think it's no help and going to the farmer's almanac usually is more accurate. They predict things up to a year in advance and get it right more often than the tv guys do, IMO. Their site is http://www.almanac.com/forecast/USIA0137 (says rain until Thursday and then Friday/Sat/Sun is sun/clouds)

So basically, what I'm hearing is the forecast goes something like this ...

"Tomorrow will be sunny or cloudy with highs between 32 and 90 depending on the weather!!!" :P

Hi John,

I assume your right off of Lexington Dr. The KC clan and myself will be arriving about 4:30 on Friday.

For everybody else,

Saturday morning for those that want breakfast, lets meet at the Holiday Inn breakfast buffet. Target time: 9AM (they close it down at 10).

For Saturday night, I believe the MM'rs from CF are suggesting to meet at the Other Place on University Ave for dinner. John if you could provide an address for this eatery.

Somewhere we'll try for a group shot. Saturday would be the best somewhere, since we'll have some day cruisers in for the day. John has suggested maybe the track or his house.

If you want, we can install that NOS kit this weekend for you too! Is it the ZEX kit I just finished installing? If so, you can look at mine and it takes about an hour. You can also get your bottle filled at CFR.

Car's getting washed at noon, drag slicks going on at 1pm, going up on the trailer at 2.

I'm leaving Faribault around 2:30pm if anyone from the Twin Cities wants to Caravan. I'll be pulling into the track about 5:30-6:00pm.

Looking forward to seeing all!

Did I read right that there is 93 octane available in Iowa?

There are two locations for 93 octane in CF. One is very easy to find, and very accessible, and the other isn't far off.

I have seniors graduating this weekend (19 of them) so I will be back and forth the whole time since I have 15 grad parties to go to. I have one tonight so I will see you guys at the track later around 8-8:30.

I have a few Sat. afternoon so I will probably go to breakfast and out to the track, then do my party tour from there and meet up with you guys for evening festivities.

Sunday is pretty much out for me as it's commencement plus the rest of my seniors. (No, I've never missed a senior reception since I've been teaching, and I'm trying to keep my streak alive).

As for weather, they mentioned nothing about rain today, and my fresly washed MM just got rained on on the way to work this morning. Gotta love weather people. They just don't have a clue. :mad2:

Now there is a chance of thunderstorms today and tomorrow, yet they still say not much of one.

Well, just got back from the doctor after dealing with something for the last week and being off work the last 2 days. Diagnosed with bronchitis and an ear infection (which is VERY uncomfortable). Anyway, got some medicine to start taking, but unless it is a miracle medicine that takes care of everything between now and tomorrow morning, I will not be heading up. I have spent the last 2 days in bed finally after fighting this for a week and do not feel well at all. I hope it works and I can make it, but I am not getting my hopes up right now.

If I don't make it, have fun tonight and tomorrow. And watch out for some of the Corvette and F-Body owners that I know are heading up. I was really hoping to get some video footage of everybody. Sorry.

It was great meeting everyone and putting faces to the names.

I've got a bunch of pictures that I'll be uploading however I need to smudge some of the license plate numbers. That will probably take me a day or two.

John .. thank you for your hospitality. I look forward to our next get together in the Twin Cities for the Renaissance festival. I told my wife about it and she's definately interested in going.

Hopefully you won't have too many bugs for those driving back home. I think I killed all of the bugs in the state of Iowa when I left yesterday. Needless to say, a proper bath for the Marauder was necessary. Bug guts everywhere!!!

Hope you guys enjoyed Star Wars and that the weather cleared up after that to get a couple of runs at the track. I wish I could have stayed behind, but alas.

Have a good one.

John/Andrew/Jason,

You Cedar Falls guys took real good care of us, definitely appreciate the hospitality from all of you. John awlsome house.

It was great seeing "all the local" talent from the site here. Except for the rain on Saturday this motly crew came together from Kansas City, Omaha, Barrington, IL, a couple different towns in Minnesota, along with the CF crew. The track was fun on Friday night, thou it was unfortunate that all couldn't make it in time for some fun. Saturday, Mother Nature was bad to us, preventing continued fun at the track. However, a few MMs did show up for the Saturday matinee of the latest Star Wars flick. Saturday evening found us at a fine establishment (The Brown Bottle) for some great food and conversation. The evening continued with the remaining group playing cards and having fun back at the hous that John built.

If you're able to put the renaissance weekend together in September,
me and the Mrs. will definitely plan to show up.

Hey I didn't hear you some of you were interested in coming up for the Renaissance Festival this fall. That is right in my backyard (Chaska is right across the river from the Renaissance). The traffic is usually a headache for me and I try to stay away from the area on the weekends if possible.

Mark, let me know if you need any help with anything...I'll do what I can.

There are plenty of places to meet around Chaska. They have some great parks and some good places to eat. Not as big as Cedar Falls, but still plenty to see around the area.

It was great meeting everyone in CF!

Friday was great. Car ran good, but slow. I talked with Lidio today and I'm heading out to Mt. Clemens on June 3rd for a re-tune as its on the conservative side right now. I'm having Alt. Auto put in an upgraded fuel pump and Lidio's gonna dyno tune it as I'm also putting in a 90mm MAF. Should pick her up a bit :D

The drag slicks work well, just gotta practice a bit more on launching her!

After Alt. Auto on the 3rd I'm heading to Muncie Indiana for a Impala SS Raceday at Muncie Dragway on June 5th. Should be a fun time.

I'll apologize in advance for piggybacking this on y'all's post...but do any of you KC MM owners know about this classic car place just off of I-70 at Exit 66 eastbound?

I was coming back from a trip to Junky City KS this last weekend, and had to stop...This old guy out there's got a '69 Torino GT notchback that looks to be in pretty good shape, bucket seats, console auto, hood scoop say 351 on it which sounds about right, no serious rust (on just a cursory inspection tho), green with black vinyl top, says he wants 14k for it. Name of the place is Lance Auto Investments, or something like that...just wondering if any of y'all had seen the joint...?
