"411" is info...Information, "directory assistance."
"4:10" is a gear ratio, lots of 411 on this here, and "hear."
What is it you are looking for?

4.10 Rearend. 4.11 was from my hotrodding days, back then it was 4.11 and not 4.10.

I know what ya mean. The 9" rear could be fitted with lots more ratios than the 8.8". Took me awhile to get used to the big jumps in ratio selections.
Oh, original question... I got a new, unused set that someone bought and decided not to use. Got it for $150 with 2 qts synthetic lube and shim kit. Not installed yet, but I found a mod-friendly Ford dealer who will be installing soon. Driveshaft vibration problems have been noted by some folks, but not everybody has problems. A few options exist for correcting the vibration, in order of expense: 1)balance the OEM shaft, 2)get a '99-'00 PI shaft, 3)get a DR shaft, 4)get a SHM shaft. A chip must be used to correct the speedo.

Sailsmen: I purchased mine from Dennis Reinhart, where most on the board have done likewise. You get a Ford Motor Sports set of gears with new bearings. They were $180 plus shipping. As far as install, I'd look for a Mustang Shop, or you might find a dealer willing to do the swap, but that might be expensive. It would help if you would put a general location in your preferences so that it would show in your messages. That way we'd have some idea of where you are and possibly know of a shop in your area.
I think the "411" is he's in New Orleans..."the Big Easy"...
DROBIN is down there and can possibly help?

A chip is not needed to install 4.10's or correct the speedo. The dealership for one can reflash the computer to accept the new rear end, or some speed shops with the right equipment can reflash the computer.

I read in a post somewhere in these forums (actually several posts stated this) that the parameter for setting a 4.10 ratio was not accessible by the dealer. Apparently that was bad info, I stand corrected.

Is a chip required for the speedo? Can the chip be purchased from the same source as the rearend? How far off is it with out the chip?

Either a chip or a re-burn is required. Chip is available for the same source (Dennis Reinhart). At 2,000 rpm my speedo reads about 67 mph with the chip set to 3.55 ratio and about 62 mph at 4.10 ratio. So if you put in the gears without the chip change, you're not actually going as fast as the speedo says by about 5 mph at moderate speeds and about 10 mph at highway speeds (I consider hwy speeds about 85 mph).

Thanks for the help. This is an impressive forum/website. Do you know who maintains it or put it together?
