View Full Version : Engine Bay Decals

I decided to add some decals to my engine bay, as I've seen some other owners do.

Here's the rub -- Vinyl decals don't like to stick to the radiator cover, especially if you've been applying a dressing to it to make it nice and shiney. Even cleaning it off real good they still won't stick. I know this after dropping some bucks on decals that were ruined in the install process. Stickers work fine -- they have enough backing to work.

I stumbled across a fix for this. Apply the decal like normal, but don't remove the top part -- peel off the backing and stick it on the cover like it's a big sticker.
Leave it there a couple of days. After you've been out driving and come home on the third or fourth day, the top part of the decal will be very loose and ready to peel off. The heat from the motor will have caused the vinyl decal to set on the radiator cover. Just carefully peel off the top layer, and voila, a great looking die cut vinyl decal. I applied one to the radiator cover and the fuse box cover.

Here's pics:

I've also found that if you take the top part of the decal off very slowly, you can use your fingernail to peel they vinyl off of the top sheet you can lay it on the radiator and once you do this then you have absolutely no problem, i've tried posting some pics of this but the gallary won't take the upload, i gotta doctor the pics some more, i'll get them to fit sooner or later.

Thanks for the info Donny. I'll be leaving my new carbon fiber cover naked, though.

Hey folks....

Yes the "sticker" has VIN, build date, my name etc. I will PM you the email address of where I got it. I had similar on my Cobra. Tho there was room in that car for an underhood as well as on the console.

Check you PMs.

I just ordered one of these name plates! It's too bad we don't know the production sequence for each car, because the Cobra version has the "build X of X" line.
