Well, I got the parts from "the dealer" a while back, and finally had enough warm weather and daylight to play in the driveway today. I'd say the job should take less than an hour if you follow the shortcut referred to under Resources.

In fact, I followed the post under "Resources" and found it to be an excellent guide. Even without being able to see the pictures he refers to, the text is so clear you're fine without them.

Pulling/prying the center console lid & box out was easy, though I was surprised they were one piece and didn't have any screws.

The guages weren't bad, just a bit of wiggling. The area around the gear selector came off easily too, especially after turning the key to "on" and pulling the shifter back to low gear for more wiggle room.

No tricks to the under dash covers either.

My only curve ball came with the vacuum hose that runs from the vacuum tree on the firewall down to the area of the throttle pedal. Turns out the "hose" in my car wasn't a hose! It looked just like the white hose described, and was located just as described, but mine was 6-8" shorter than the new one I fortunate got from The Dealer.

And it was mostly plugged solid. Of course I didn't realize that until after splicing some other hose to make up for it's short length.

Sooo... if you recontent the auto-ebrake release, make sure your white vacuum hose is an actual hose. Also, hooking the hose onto the vacuum tree is a trick... hands barely fit behind the engine. I found that by unplugging a couple do-hickies and pulling the transmission dipstick out though that I could squeeze one hand in from the side while the other worked from top-center.

Best of luck, and feel free to PM me with any questions on the install.

Works slick.

Glad you liked the instructions, I wrote them. I should have mentioned to check the white hose to be sure it wasn't plugged, damaged, etc. I have only found one that was bad. You are right about the clearance at the rear of the engine where the hose goes to the vacuum tree. It's a good time to press Mrs. Wrench into service for her small hands.

Oh, if there's only 1 in 11,000 I'd be that guy! I can break things that don't break!

I'm really enjoying the auto-release. My 1978 Marquis has the same feature... so glad I could add it back in. Thanks again for the instructions!
