How did you arrive at that conclusion? There were at least 15 versions of the General Lee used in the production of the T.V series. I had the pleasure of meeting Ben Jones and his family, and one of the famed cars (http://www.mercurygallery.net/mmnet/showphoto.php/photo/398/sort/1/cat/all/page/1 )
Most of the cars mentioned in this tread were one of a kinds and certainly had a higher consumption of pumped gas then any version of the General Lee.
:argue: :bs:

The Batmobile is powered by a front mounted, 1500 HP gas turbine engine. The engine burns 97% octane aircraft fuel and can bring the Batmobile from 0 to 90 mph in 5.2 seconds. With its multi speed transmission, the car's top cruising speed is 225 mph; the Batmobile is also equipped with a separate afterburner that can for brief distances, boost the vehicle's speed to 350 miles per hour.

During the shooting of the pilot, Don Johnson blew up the 340 engine while driving one of the stunts. Not surprisingly, like the jumping "General Lee" '69 Dodge Charger that appeared in the long-defunct "Dukes of Hazzard" series, more than one yellow Cuda was created for the show out of 1970 models. In fact, several of those five famous fakes have already been auctioned off.

In the show, it is never stated what engine the General has but here are some facts so you can make up your own mind. The best look you get at "the" engine in the General Lee is in the episode "Happy Birthday General Lee". In this episode you see a big block Mopar engine on an engine stand but it's not a detailed enough shot to tell if it is a B or RB block. So in theory, that engine could be any Chrysler big block, including the 350 (YES! Chrysler did build a 350), 361, 383, 400, 413, 426 (wedge not Hemi) or 440. In reality, the only B and RB engines found naturally in a '69 Charger were the 383, 440 and Hemi. So you can safely narrow that engine on the stand down to a 383 or 440. A little more reality rears its ugly head and we find out that the engine on the stand was a seized motor that they painted up for that shot and was not actually put into a General. So what engine did "the" General have in it? The close-up car, the car you were "supposed" to see when the hood was up (although you see the hood opened on many non-close-up cars with various engines), has a 383 in it. Of the surviving cars, the vast majority have 383s but a couple have 318s and 440s. So again, if you have to pick a "the" engine, I'd go with the 383 in the close-up car.

The Drag-u-la has dual 4 barrel carburetors with a Ram-thrust MT manifold and bat-shaped forced-air scoops. Gas is consumed at a rate of 4 gallons per mile of embalming fluid pushed by the high powered Dupree Chrome Dome electric fuel pump. Antique head and tail lights with solid silver spiders on the hub caps carry out the funeral motif. Spouting out of the side of the coffin almost like a cluster of flowers, is the engine Huth exhaust system ala metal organ tubes that are tuned.

Wagonmaster should be the official winner :banana2:

Just some more Generl Lee facts

Well let's begin with what kind of car my General started life as before
it decided to become a TV star. From the VIN "XP29H8B" and code plate
my General began life as a '68 Charger, 383 HP, 727 auto, 8.75 3.55:1
sure grip, Power front disc, PS & AC. It was originally dark turquoise
with a white interior and white vinyl top.

The car from The Green Hornet.

1966 Imperial uses a 440 cubic inch V-8 with silenced air cleaner and dual exhausts is standard, replacing last years 413-inch V-8. The TorqueFlite automatic transmission is also standard and uses a 2.94 axle ratio in 1966. The new 440-inch is supposed to give 0-60 mph times of 10 seconds or less and cuts down passing in the 50-70 mph range by 10%.

Wheelbase 129.0 inches
Width 80.0 inches
Height 55.8 inches
Curb weight 5432 pound
Horsepower 350@4400 rpm
Torque 480@3200

Big car ,but again, not the winner.
