I had a problem with my MAF ,getting oil fouled, about a month ago. repalced it, check engine light gone BUT when i let off the gas the car will NOT go below 1100 RPM unless im at a complete stop. You can see how this can be a problem because at that rpm the wheels are being pushed hard enough by the engine to resist the brakes ,which is not good. Any ideas this time?

More details, please...

How did your MAF get oil-fouled?
Did you replace it with another Ford unit or an aftermarket one?
Did you disconnect the battery for 15 minutes or so, to reset the PCM tables?

car will NOT go below 1100 RPM unless im at a complete stop. You can see how this can be a problem because at that rpm the wheels are being pushed hard enough by the engine to resist the brakes So in other words you're expecting the engine to be at idle while the car is still moving? That isn't possible, and I don't see any way that it did that before the change was made. Can it be that you just never noticed this until after you made the change? This might be a concern if you had a manual transmission in your car, but since this is a vehicle with an automatic trans., and a torque converter with a 2500 RPM stall speed, I believe that what you've described is fine.

Get a lower rpm reflash.

Too much oil on the air filter? can oil the MAF causing it to
get incorrect air flow info!Thinks its idling too low and trying to
bump up the idle speed..it is not fouled enough to trigger check
engine light but will probably have to be replaced again..

LVMarauder, take RF's advice do a computer reset. What is it idling at?

I don't see how he can be talking about what the car is idling at since he described this 1100 RPM situation as happening while the car is moving. So how can it idle while it's moving? If I drive my car down the street even very slowly in first gear, and let off of the gas pedal and watch the tachometer, I know that it will not drop down to idle, and never has. The car is in motion, so it cannot be at idle RPM while it's in motion. Below is a quote from his post....

"....will NOT go below 1100 RPM unless im at a complete stop"

That is true but he also suggests the the car seems to be
pushing when he is at a stop..or approaching a stop
which can happen with a car that is idling a little high.
..The description of his problem is
a little odd but that is how I read it!!:)

If you are talking about putting your car in "N" while it is moving, it will not go down below 1100 rpm's.

Your car is acting normally.

Your car is acting normally.Go take your Marauder out, and drive it through a parking lot at 10 MPH in drive, and let off the gas pedal, and watch the tachometer while the car is still coasting, and tell me what RPM it reads. My Marauder will not exhibit an idle RPM in drive below 1,000 RPM until the car comes to a complete stop in drive, and it's always been that way from the factory.

:) Next question what is the idle RPM in park and drive
with the engine warmed up? (stopped) if there is not a problem here
then there probably not much wrong with the car as has
been correctly stated..The engine RPM will stay high if
the vehicle is moving even in neutral...
approx, 600-700rpm in drive
approx 800-900rpm in neutral/park

RF- I dunno "how" it got fouled but i got a pretty good idea, theres a whole thread here.Story Here (http://www.mercurymarauder.net/forums/showthread.php?t=16856&highlight=MAF)
I ended up replacing with factory MAF. Have reset the battery.

Billy- my fault in explaning it. new example: coasting in the parking lot up to parking spot. at theses speeds I should be idling at about 900?( literally crawling along) well im at 1100 and i can feel the engine pushing against the brakes until i get the car STOPPED , then the idles drop down to 900. same thing happens at stop lights or on the highway, i always feel the engine pushing against the brakes. Make more sense?P.S. 3000 stall speed. i know it didnt do this before my MAF failure.

directedby/ rayjay- at idle 800-900. once moving (slowly) its 1100 unless i stop.

Gram- replaced with new MAF, connector was clean as can be, so was intake and all surrounding parts, this was a real pain in the ass amonth ago so i made SURE no oil was in anything. Idle RPM in gear and N are the same if i at rest, sure, when i put it in N it shoots to 1100 for about 5 seconds but then falls to 900.

The IAC valve or idle air control on the side of the throttle

body could be sticking..if it became oil coated...
really shooting in the dark without codes or doing
an idle test using a scanner..
I believe it is the silver valve with a two wire plug..
at the front of the TB right beside the blackTPS sensor
you can remove the two small bolts to examine it and
check if it contaminated..O2 safe TB cleaner can be used
to clean the ports and IAC valve...
a vacuum leak or faulty Map sensor can give some
similar characteristics..an incorrectly connected
vac hose when you where cleaning ...can you compare
another MM?? I am starting to run out of ideas..
