View Full Version : Starting After Extended Storage
Bad Boy Merc

I haven’t cranked the ole Bad Boy since last November, so I have a concern about the certain lack of oil pressure when it first fires up. Is there an easy way to disable the ignition or fuel system to prevent light-off for a few cranks, until some oil pressure build-up is achieved? One concern is that I don’t want to experience any fault codes. Any help is appreciated.
Thanks,
Bob

I dont think you'll have a problem. But if you must crank it w/o starting, pull the fuel pump fuse. Check the owners manuel for the exact location under the hood.

I remember the Crown Vics having a red fuel shut off button in the trunk about where the suspension switch is on the MM. I haven't looked but is there no button for this?
I used to install police equipment in the Vics few years back and remember panicing when I couldn't start a brand new car after I installed all the stuff...ended up I bumped this button when I was climbing in and out.

Just fire her up,the starter will not turn the engine fast enough to build any meaningful oil pressure. Then when you stop and recrank to start the pressure will be lost again anyway.

Hey what's going on? Haven't talked to you since last April I think it was, at the XXX in Issaquah.
