Yeah, and the Cable guy told my wife that the L/M dealer had a Black MM and a White MM nose to nose out in front.. Went by and it was GM.
They don't make a white one. Hopefully, they NEVER will.

Well, from the ultra-classified "black ops" work YOU'VE been doing, Mr. SergntMac, I'd say that Chicago is now Area 51½, so-o-o-o...

Could that be the reason MM sales not what they predicted?
I can just see a customer saying, "I don't like black. Do you have one in white?"
Then the salesmen sells them a GM with the "Marauder option package"

From even a short distance a CV LX Sport can look just like a Marauder. Especially to the untrained eye.
In fact, nearly every time I think I see another MM it turns out to be a CV. Even the wheels look similar from 50-100 feet away.
The only time I did see another MM was the day I picked up the full sized spare from my dealer. As we were pulling out, another MM pulled out of the gas station next door. We passed within a few feet of each other but he never even looked our way. Looked to be as old as my dad: had gray hair and beard.
I said to my wife: "Look at that old man driving that hot rod!" She just laughed and laughed. What was so funny?

That they look like a CV to the untrained eye is correct.
I've had a lot of folks at the car wash and other places say it looks like a CV but there's something different and a few have asked where'd you get those wheels for your CV? Arugh!! That's why I bought the 3m Chrome rear bumper insert from BobWhiteDecals. Now they can read the bumper and don't get confused. I'm also getting more thumbs up as drivers pass me now that they can clearly read the Marauder on the back.

A white Marauder is entirely possible if a customer wanted it white, a dealer"s bodyshop can paint it or have it sent out and done. We did a few allover's bck in the 80's while I was working at a Cadillac dealer here in Detroit area. All it takes is $$$$$$$

I recently bought a 2003 Crown Vic Sport (black) and a couple of the guys at work still think I drive a MM...and at 58 I'm an old fart with grey hair, but we still like hot rods...and if you think I get looks with the CVS, you should see em when I drive my Trans Am Convertible...if its in your blood it never dies....

Curious as to why the choice of '03 CVS over a Marauder? Especially considering how low the MM is going for now...

Well to a Ford guy a Ford is a Ford and well a Mercury is well NOT a Ford.
Therefore, a Ford guy will still buy the Ford that is the nearest to what he might have bought--if he wasn't a Ford guy.

But that is kinda like Evinrude and Johnson, same assembly line...

And as soon as I can get rid of that stupid "hocky-stick", "waterfall", mini-van emblem on my steering wheel. Mine will have nothing to do with Mercury, as well. Thats probably Mr. Smokers "dream"...that we would all fade away into an oblivion...since Mercury doesn't seem to want to claim us anymore. I've said it before, I would have bought this car if it was an SVT Ford Blackhawk...could care less about the Mercury name or the Marauder "heritage".
Just find it interesting that someone would purchase a CVS for probably the same amount of $s that a MM can be had now. And, I think it's fair to say there are several improvements on the MM over the CVS...

I'm with you Todd.
Not a Mercury man. Pretty much a Ford man all my life and I was hoping our car was gonna end up a Blackhawk, or a Galaxie, or something.
And comparing the Marauder to the LX Sport is one of the things that helped me make up my mind. And that was back in November when the rebate was "only" $2000.

I agree, todd...although I'm glad SOMEONE resurrected an old muscle name, I would have been just as happy if this car was a Ford, or even a Chevrolet...oh wait...this car WAS a Chevy from '94 to '96... :P

Todd, and others
The reason my choice was the CVS over the MM was MONEY...When I finally bought the Crown Vic Sport it came in at 25K compared to the MM which at that time was going for around 32K and change...that is a big deal to my pocket book...and believe me, I thought long and hard about it...I have been a fan of the MM since the first hint that it was comming out...but after a lot of soul serching I decided on the CVS because of price and the fact that if I want more power, there is always the chip...et al. OH, and by the way, I just received my latest Motor Trend and one of the articles stated that the MM was going to be discontinued after the 04 model year, and that silver was going to be an option in 04...so for all you lucky dudes and dudettes, you almost have a built in classic...

Okay folks --it's about time I chime in here--
I too was like "Ishultz" --wow--hope I can shorten that name--hard to remember--anyway--I too was exactly in te same mind set--heck yeah--the CVS was cheaper--but looking stock to stock--I was getting 63 more rated HP( 239 vs 302) and more torque and the pipes and the wheels and the trim and the NAME and the all the other bells and whitsles the CVS couldn't produce---so once I got the Dealer down to CV sticker price --well it was a no brainer for me----- especially since
I knew any mods will produce a faster response sooner in comparison ...and besides...when you are the standard that others look up too...welll need I say more...they're looking ....at us .....
Just had to get my 02c in ..been awhile--there are so darn many threads to catch up on..takes for ever.....

While driving home tonight I spotted what I thought was a MM. From a distance the rear end looks similar. When I got closer I realized it was a black CV unmarked Police Car. With Bob White decals there is no mistaking a MM. John :)

A sneaky Marauder made me jam on my brakes some time ago when the owner of SVTperformance.com was visiting Jersey... We were coming back from Manhattan on route 3 by the Meadowlands, when this dude started accelerating fast on the entrance ramp...
We wound up passing him practically in slow motion, than I laughed at myself for falling for it and floored it.... he didn't catch up.

I looked hard at the MM also, but picked up my 2001 CV Sport with only 1350 miles on it for $19k last June.
I have installed the mods listed in my sig which netted me about 30 HP over stock for around $650. In my mind that was a pretty good investment of HP for the money.
I am seriously thinking about taking the next step and going with the AED supercharger for another 90 HP this spring. Then I will be on or above par with most Maruaders and still be less than $25k.
I will say though that I like the Marauder wheels and MEG tips better!!! ;)

I'll have to look for that issue of Motortrend. That '04 end rumor has been around for a couple of months now, but so far is unsubstantiated.
Mercury had previously stated the Marauder was slated to be around until 2006 or 2007

Bill, I am located in Chaska. I am more involved on Crownvic.net, but it is great to see what else is happening here with the Marauder. It is such a cool car!
You guys should be able to find more aftermarket parts then the 'Vic owners have. Fortunately there are a lot of things that we can borrow from the Marauder as well.
The Marauder airbox and 80mm MAF fit my 2001 CV perfectly. All of the mounting holes lined up and everything. The only thing I did was make a twist lock hole in the upper housing to match the hole in my factory airbox for the IAT sensor. I found out afterwards that the IAT is built into the MAF in the Marauder and would have only had to move the wires from mine to pins 1 and 6.
See my posts from Crownvic.net for the latest dyno sheets (http://www.crownvic.net/ubbthreads/showflat.php?Cat=&Board=UBB23&Number=173846&page=0&view=collapsed&sb=7&o=&fpart=1) and ADTR intake (http://www.crownvic.net/ubbthreads/showflat.php?Cat=&Board=UBB23&Number=171329&page=0&view=collapsed&sb=7&o=&fpart=1#Post183369):D :D
