I just got an info brochure on "Premuim Care" an extended service plan, it states it covers 500+ key components and the cost for 4 more years for 36k miles is $1295, for 48k miles $1535, also $100 parts deductible! My Marauder is a 2003 that I purchsed in July 2002.

Any suggestions as to whether this is worth it or not - I only have 10k miles on it and it is garaged from Nov to April!

Thanks for any suggestions.

Hey Marsha!,

Look closer, those may be for Used car warrantys.
For an extention of your new car warranty the stated mileage is the Total mileage on the car ie;5yr.60,000 mi.Used car warranties( past factory 36mo.- 36000mi.)begin on the purchace date and begin from existing mileage.
One claim for drive line/climate control/electrical could cost you more than the warranty.
You can elect to get 0 deductible for a couple hundred more.

Hey Marsha! I bought the 5-year, (or 75,000 mile) used-car warranty for about $1,500.00. I think that will pay for itself since I seem to have a "mod-friendly" dealership here... (within reason).
IMO, go for it!

I got the ESP premiumcare for 5 yr/100k mi @ about $1250. Search around on these forums and you'll find where I got it. It was online, but it is a Ford warranty, I just don't recall the url.

Marsha, they must like you, just got an online price of $1565 for a total of 7 years $50 deductible 75000 total miles, and on top of that there is a disclaimer "price not good for Florida residents". This is for the "Premium Care" plan

Hi Smokie,

Yes, I read that disclaimer for FL - wonder why? That's where I spend my winters and the MM is home in NH in the garage.
I went to the Lombard Ford site after looking up Ford warrantees and searching and the next thing I know they sent an e-mail to me stating I would get an additional $185 off if I bought before April 30th! Otherwise it would have been $1510 with $0 deductible. You could call them at 866-379-7095 and ask why NOT FL!!

Is it actually from Mercury/Ford? I got one in the mail from some company but they talked like they were FoMoCo and wanted to upgrade my warranty.

Hi,

You can get it on www.FordWarranty.com and they are backed by Ford and they say they can offer a lower price as they do quantity - more than a dealership. Check it out. I may call them this week.

I will call, but the disclaimer about Florida is starting to make me angry, if Florida prices are higher...I'll keep my money in the bank.

Florida = not a good financial risk for the insurance/warranty company, y'all keep your cars too long in F L A!

Think about it? These warranties are just insurance policies, and insurance companies make money by underwriting your emotional concerns, not repairing your car. When you buy an extended warranty, usually you want protection for the life of the automobile as long as you own it.

It's most likely that the average consumer will unload the insured car before the extended warranty runs out, and the insurance company banks on not having to repair it during it's life in the insured owner's hands.

Down in Florida, cars, and ownership, live too long...IMHO.

The good news; is your probably going to live longer( able to terrorize the streets in Florida more)the bad news; It's gonna cost you more:twocents: :D

Many aftermarket automotive warranties are the same ... in fact some don't even offer plans in Florida.

I've found other extended warranties & service plans (non-automotive) are often different for those living in Florida as well.

Example :

Dell & Gateway computers.

If you were to browse & build a computer/laptop online ... you will see disclaimers for those living in Florida when it comes to extended service & accidental damage plans.
(I think you're pretty much SOL if you want one)

:P

My quote was $1650.

Minimum of at least ONE additional yr of coverage tho(you 2003 vs me 2004) ...

So that makes sense.

There are pros and cons to any insurance purchase. I drive my MM alot, and I bought the EPS package for 4 years 100k $50 deductible. I for one got my money out of it after the 3yr/36K went in 18 months. The car now has 78K+ miles on it.

Consider after the basic warranty expired:

1. Overheat 2/04, new thermostat, fresh antifreeze $50.00
2. New long block due to overheat 4/04 $50.00
3. New windshield, broken in dealers hands (n/c fixed under #2)
4. Axles growling 2/05, bad shafts, rebuilt differential first $50.00
5. Axles, bearing, seals replaced 2/05 (n/c fixed under #4)

Just having the engine replaced alone, with labor would have cost 5-6 times the cost of the ESP policy. Then factor the free loaner cost on top of that for the engine repair and axles, and your probably looking at about $8K plus. So, in my case, the policy was a good buy. I also like the no hassle of dealing with another insurance broker trying to get things taken care of. Dove into my local FMC dealer, they check the problem, took care of business, no questions, no hassle.

I also purchased this on two previous cars, never used on either, but one never knows. In fact, I traded one early and got a partial refund of unused mileage/time.

Just my $.02's.

Many aftermarket automotive warranties are the same (Quote)
The common denominator amongst aftermarket warranties (Non Ford ESP),is they are in the business to deny claims,Ford has an interest in your future business, thus motivated to pay the repair.
Ford does not require an company representitive to visit the dealer where the work is being done, and do an inspection of the defective parts.
This may take time several days, all the while driving a loaner(maybe)wondering if the warranty company will honor the repair.I know the prices will look more attractive, for a secondary Warranty company, If they
are still around when your Marauder breaks, you will not recall the difference you payed.good luck and enjoy your new car!(almost)

I agree with Bradley to a point. Ford did in fact send a rep to check out my old engine prior to giving the OK for the engine replacement. Other than that, I'm satisified with what I have and how ford has treated me and the MM under the ESP program.

Ford may send a rep for an engine failure or a trans.
The aftermarket warranty companies that I have been exposed to ,will use the same slow method,(inspection) on a repair that exceeds a hundred dollars or so.
They can tie a customers car up for several days/week for a waterpump or a fuel pump, literally any part that fails is subject to inspection.
All the while, making you prove, all related maintenence items, have been documented.
For an eight thousand dollar claim:I think an inspection is warranted( and even if there is evidence of abuse/neglect,I have seen things get resolved/partially warrantied)

I think it was about 1500ish for Ford ESP Platinum coverage. Purchased from the dealer I got the MM from in Melbourne, FL. I live n Orlando. I think it is 6 years/75000 mile coverage. Fifty dollar deductible.

That's 25 bucks less than I paid for the same program. At the Ford dealer that services my car. And it is the premium setup. Bought it at 35,989 miles on the od.

I got mine from fordwarrantycentral.com and I compared the local rates. The local shops were at least $100 higher (some were $250 higher), and I was buying 2 warranties so it was worthwhile for me to save the $200.

I got ESP premiumcare 5 yr 100k miles. Figured I need the miles more than the years since both of mine have over 50k in 2 or 2-1/2 years.

One thing to remember when dealing with a dealer on an ESP: just like car prices, they are negotiable. The dealer has a huge mark up on the warranty. Haggle, haggle, haggle!

I used to have a dealers license in California. WHile there I had freinds who were finance managers in Ford and Chevrolet dealerships. The markup is THEIRS. So when buying a new car you can play with THEM on price of the warranty. Just FYI

FYI,

Went with the premium care, 6 years 60,000 miles. I paid extra for $0 deductible, and first day rental. I don't put that many miles on, 60,000 should be fine. Heck, it won't even start until December (in-service date). I've got to get it in before then for small issues. Total was $1165.
