OK, who was in a Black MM southbound on I-95 at about 5:50 PM? :D Your shiny wheels spinning and black sideview caught my eye right as we were both crossing the Occoquan River Bridge. (A very infrequent occasion to spot another Marauder on the road) Unfortunately, you were in the left lane and I was in the exit lane. Didnt' catch the plates so I don't know if it was a local or someone just passing through the Northern Virginia area. Held my hand out and up to wave the "secret" Marauder signal .... wasn't sure you saw me in the Blue MM.

Anyone here? :dunno:

I think CBT can knock a bunch of miles off that 229 by coming across the Chesapeake Bay Bridge-Tunnel and taking Route 13 up the eastern shore to US 50 then west to Kent Island (Stevensville, MD). Seems that would be a more direct route that would avoid the big loop and the DC area.

Toll is $12.00 for a passenger car. Only $5.00 for the return trip within 24 hours (need to keep the receipt for the trip). :D

That's not too 'salty'...

It is definitely a more rural, stress free route....No Potomac Mills, no 'Mixing Bowl' construction, no Wilson Bridge construction, no DC Beltway, no Bay Bridge....

(The Bay Bridge on Route 50 will get you for $5 anyway.)

Check both ways.....route around DC 227 miles 3 hours 19 minutes

Going the Bay-Bridge Tunnel........224 miles 4 hours 17 minutes...

Me I would opt for the Bay Bridge Tunnel:)

How do they add 1 hour for essentially the same mileage on a less crowded route??

They are probably using 60-65 mph average for the interstate trip and 45-50 mph for the trip up the Peninsula. :D These calculators have no way of factoring in the unusual "delay" factors in the Northern Virginia area. This morning, it took 60 minutes to go 15 miles (a whopping 15 mph average. I was able to get up to 30 for brief periods. ;)

I keep forgetting that Newport News is NOT in Virginia Beach ... so like BDJ said ... the distances are about equal. Like Jim, I too would probably take the route up the eastern shore just for a change of scenery. I am sick of I-95 in Virginia. It is a state and national embarrassment within 50 miles of Washington, DC in any direction. :(

Well lower speed limits on the back roads for one.

Interstates are based on 65MPH.

Local roads are set at 45-55MPH.

I think you could make good time on the "back" roads in a marauder :banana2:
