This will be interesting, I know the guy that brought 3 64's and was told he'd have an interview, well, they filmed the cars with no interview. I hope that they found a 427 Marauder like he wanted, this one would have been great--http://www.oregoncamshaft.com/our-old-cars.html

Speaking of BADA$$ FEs...I was driving around the Baltimore Beltway on Sunday and came up on a car which I had seen at a car show 2 years ago....
It was a 1963-1/2 Galaxie Factory Lightweight with a 427 2x4 bbl!! :banana2: :burnout: (complete with wavy fiberglass fenders) and real 427 'Thunderbird' Badges. :bows: :bows: :bows:
He was just cruisin' along at 55 mph, I gave him the big :2thumbs:
I had talked to the owner at the car show and he told me that he paid $18,000 for it back in the 80s....You couldn't touch it now for less than $75,000.

First 15 minutes were great! Good to see some Mercury race cars. Thought the X-100 was a pretty cool car, but felt the show made some fun of it. Why didn't they even mention the newest Marauder...didn't they do a show on the new GTO????
13.+ second original Maruader....SWEET!

I was also a little disappointed that they didn't at least mention our new MMs. Otherwise, an interesting show about the early models.

Didn't they get the info about the original S-55 wrong? I thought there were more than 2 of them still running. I thought we had at least 2 on the site here!

I still think the X-100 and Convertable in that Salmon colour are the nicest :D

Well, besides the one in my driveway!

You'd think they would get the facts right, but as in any reporting their are mistake's, information left out, some :bs: , yes their are more than 2 427's left, The 64 that ran the 1/4 was all stock down to the mufflers.
I was dissapointed as well that the New Marauder's were not included, short sighted reporting on their part. :burnout:

Yeah, and ironically the guy with the worst information, Eddie Petro (who is apparently a LM dealer) is listed here along with 9 other S55 owners, most with photos. (Petro said that there were only 2 left out of 500 made in 1963, his being one of the two)

and here is a photo of a sweet '63 S55 in white:

They did show one of my all time favorite Mercs-the 1969 Cyclone fastback (orange).

I thought that the car was a CJ 428, but then I think that the CJ may have had a blacked out grille? Can't remember. The car in the show had a chrome grille.

I had a new 1968 Cyclone fastback back in 68. Bought the 302-4V motor with 4 speed. Added the CJ hoodscoop and black hood tape stripes, Keystone Classic wheels, hood locking pins, Goodyear raised white letter Polyglas tires, 3:50 gears, removed the lower wheel/wheel tape stripe (with a hair dryer), added 1969 Merc teardrop sideview mirrors, and installed instruments along the whole dash (vacuum/amps/oil/temp). Trashed the smog pump and put in a dual point distributor. Replaced the carb with a Holley 4V.

Great looking car in a time when (IMHO), the GenMotors intermediates stumbled styling-wise. Peppy car (CJ428 motor had not been announced, and the 351 Cleveland was still a year away), but not fast.

Didn't buy the 390 because, around our neighboorhood, they were known as "slugs", but unbreakable.

My other favorite all time Merc is the early 70's Cyclone Spoiler. Hard to pick just one or two Mercury favorites. (Honorable mention, 56 Montclair 2 dr, 1950 2 dr, 1954 Sun Valley, and the 57 Merc TurnPike Cruiser.)

Just hope they don't become another Oldsmobile.

Eddie had almost all of his facts wrong. Among other things, he said the S-55 was Mercs "high performance" model and made it sound Marauder only. It was actually the bucket seat package that you could get in a Marauder, or a Monterey, 2-door or 4-door.

All of his production numbers were off except the "two of..". In this he was likely referring to his Red, Super Marauder 427, Marauder S-55 being one of only two R code Marauder S-55s known to still exist, of the 21 originally built. There are other 427 Marauders still out there.

There were 2,319 Marauder S-55s built in 1963 and 7,298 Marauders (bench seat). It is likely that less than 100 of these 9,617 cars had high performance 406 or 427 engines.

Not trying to knock Eddie or anyone else, just wanted to set the record straight. Overall it was a great show.

I saw the show. I loved it. S55 is a sexy car. Has anyone run their '60s Marauders on a chassis dyno?
