I'm sure some of you know what I'm talking about. When accelerating the RPM will drop in 2nd or 3rd gear without shifting. It will only drop slightly for a few 100 rpm. It's most noticeable when I'm lightly accelerating. I assume this is normal because this happens with a Corvette Gran Sport in a video game I have but the RPM drops much more. Does anyone know what I'm talking about and why this happens? It has been doing it all it's life and I've always found it strange.

I believe that is the torque converter locking up, but I'm not 100%.

On the MM, the TC locks up in 2nd, 3rd and 4th. There are loads of threads on this one. Done to maximize gas mileage (but does not) but on a car such as ours with drivers such as us, and comedians such as the previous 6 posters :seesaw: it really lowers the driveability. The good news is there are some excellent tunes available that turn this annoying trait off except for 4th.

Did not know it can lock up in 2nd. Will have to try it by starting out with the gear lever in 2, and watch/feel/hear it lock up.
If I start out in D, (4th) light throttle, my MM goes 1st, 2nd, 3rd, Lock up, 4th. Note that I said Light throttle.
On slightly heavier throttle, the shift to 3rd and the Lock up both happen at almost the same time, so it gives the impression of a rough 2nd to 3rd shift.
I say I watch(tach)/feel(seat of my pants)/HEAR the lock-up (and shifts) because I have LOUD Flowmasters that allow me to hear each shift.
