On my way to Fun Ford Houston today about 100 miles from home at about 65mph I ran over a gaurd rail support LOG about 8" in dia. and 3' long.Only problem is my Marauder only has about 6" of ground clearance!

Why didn't the master driver that is me swerve around said log you ask?
That had a lot to do with the 4 semi trucks in the right lane and soft shoulder and gaurd rail to my left.So I hit it.

Within 5 secounds my working Auto Meter Oil preasure gauge dropped from 60psi to below 20psi so I selected "N" and shut her off and costed to the shoulder.

Damage?
From the outside I see a very flat oil pan and 2 Kooks Cats smashed and thats it,but I'm at home and the Marauder is in Schulenberg.

Because of my deductable I'll probley be out some $$.

Internal damage I don't know but my gut says just have them change the oil pump and pick-up as well as the pan. After that if the engine makes ANY new noises, well, let the games begin...

Having 7 hours to reflect I am satisfied that hitting it sqaure was the best option, had I swerved ,but too little, and hit the log I'm sure I would have lost a wheel...at speed...in close company with semi trucks...with my 12yo daughter sitting next to me.At least after the hit I was still going strait.

I like the fact that we're not hurt!

Now you ask how did said log end up in the middle of east bond lanes of IH10?
Well glad you asked,While aproching what would wreck my FFW I note a pickup truck facing the wroung way on the west bond lanes of IH10.Seems that guy had less skill driving strait than I had wishing my Marauder had the Mach 5s button 5(the jump button for the none Speed Racer fans). He lost it,center punched the gaurd rail punting said log into the East bond lane, and me.

Now you want to know what really P!$$ed me off?
The guy turned his truck around and drove past me on his way to the nearest gas station.

Now no good tail would be complete without a little irony.
I pull to the side, stop, collect myself, and pick up the cell.... 9-1-1.
I relate my story to the dispatch, including said trucks disciption, she puts out the info as A HIT AND RUN!! Now are you ready for this...
A DPS officer is starting his day filling up his cruiser(you know where this is going don't you),he notices a guy trying to pull bumpers and fenders away from his tires, yup same guy.
He gets hit with leaving the seen and not reprting damage to state property.

Well thats it,I'll have to wait for my third "Best Marauder" car show trophy from Fun Ford Weekend.

Now the worst part (so far) I spent 4 days detailing my car,and less than 10miles from home it started RAINING!

Oh Well.

Sorry to hear about this. You did the right thing not making it worse. Like you said atleast no one was hurt. Did the trooper include you in the report? You should have been included as vehicle #2 or whatever number you were as a not at fault vehicle involved. I don't know the law in Texas, but here, his insurance would have to cover the damage to your Marauder.

Man, you did what any of us would, or could, have done. You were boxed in and that could have happened to any of us. Good job keeping it safe and cool. Your MM can be repaired, (as most machines can). Thank goodness there was no harm to you or others in your care. :)

Machines are made by people and people can re-build them. Thank God you and your's are ok. :)

I used to swirve around large objects, animals, etc and have been in two accidents because of swirving. I have since changed my policy to run over it and hope for the best...so far I have hit stuff and no damage.

Damage to your car is better than damage to yours, theirs, hospital trip, etc.

Because I wasn't directly involved with his reck I have a seperate report that will be attached to his.If I would have just said something like"I saw this truck spinning, then wam "I would have been involved.
It looks like I will end up paying my own bill, but I'm going to push my Insurance company on this.
More to come for sure.

Let your insurance carrier deal with it, thats what you pay them for. I would stay after them to make the other guy's carrier pay. Just glad you and your daughter are ok.

Glad you guys are OK.

Lesson learned:
Never drive into a box! If you do, get out of it. Some say "I couldn't get out because a guy pulled in behind me". Nonsense, just lift your foot and he will back off and the box is gone. I know how it is on I-10. We live just down the road from you in Katy.
Good luck to you and hope the car comes out OK.

Oh man, Lance, bad news. Glad you're okay though.

Yesterday, (4/30) must have been a bad day for Marauders. Mine started at the hand wash, when the was monkey got a little excited while drying my car, and got his towel wrapped up in my Zack badgeless grill, ripping out two vertical struts just right of dead center. It's a toothless grin only six year olds should display.

On top of that, and after a frustrating discussion about compensation, it rained an hour later.

Yes Chuck Brown.
They seem to be pretty good people, put the car right up on the rack and started checking it out.
Looks like only the oil pan and maybe the pick-up if it's bent.
The converters are a sticing point for my insurance because they're not stock.

Come to think of it Marty,do you know any lawyers in TX. that like to go to war with insurance co.'s,without any personel injury? Just property damage.

The OEM replacement cats are probably more expensive than what you have now. If they can't see the sense in paying for those, let them pay the price for OEM ones, return them for a refund, get the Kooks cats, and pocket the difference!

We picked up my Marauder today (YAY)!

The oil pan and pickup were replaced at Chuck Brown Ford, tech said we could have gone with only the pan but for only $35 I wasn't going to risk it.

No new engine noises, but both collectors are leaking,70mph dirrect hit to the converter will do that I geuss.

I orderered a pair of converter and the front section of the X pipe from Kooks last week, should be about 2 weeks.

Insurance is NOT going to persue the other drivers insurance because it's not worth it ,it is to me but not them.Oh well, when it's all said and done I'll be out about $500.
