I'm looking for a replacement air filter for my 03 Marauder air box.
Is the Motorcraft FA-1745 the same as the OE 3W33-9601-AB Mann filter? Motorcraft crossreferences FA-1745 to the 03/04 Crown Vic and the 03/04 Marauder. However my OE Marauder filter states that it is for the Marauder ONLY.
FA-1745 is listed as a replacement for 3W3Z-9601-AA. I know there's a slight difference between the engineering part # and the production part #, but I know the -AA/-AB indicates a different revision.
So... what do you guys use for replacement air filters?

I use the FA-1745...and I intend to use it as long as FoMoCo continues to make it.

Is it the SAME as the OE German Mann Marauder filter or is it the Mexican "Mann" filter?
What type of seal does it use? The soft silicone-style seal or the harder polyurethane seal found on the pre-03 Vic air filters?
In other words, is it inch for inch the same as the OE filter or is it a slightly different variant possibly made by a different supplier since it's not OE?

I already have a K&N style filter for my 00 Vic airbox. I'm not sure if it would work in the Marauder airbox but I'm not trying for several reasons:
When I had the cotton gauze filter in my vic, it trapped hardly any dirt/dust/sand. Everything went SOMEWHERE and I'll give you 3 guesses. All of them are "air intake stream".
With a paper filter, everything is trapped because when I pat it down, large solids come flying out. This does not happen with the K&N and upon closer examination, I rarely see dirt stuck on the gauze.
On some air box designs, the dust/dirt gets somewhat separated from the filter. We have such designs on some vehicles, but others like my T-bird, are practically "ram air" systems where the air stream flies straight into the filter element and it gets dirty within 3 months. This is probably why some UOAs show almost no change in Silicon with the use of a K&N on certain vehicles.
Anyhow, due to the lack of responses, I guess everyone is still using the OE paper filter.
I wanted to get a spare Motorcraft filter since I'm ordering a bunch of other stuff.
