So today was a beaufitul day, I'm riding around and I decide to put my transmission into 1st on launch - got the usual rubber (nothing much since it's stock for now), then at 5K RPM I shifted into 2nd and got some rubber again...a little squawk - it sounded really cool...should I be doing this, can the tranny handle it?

Gotta love it when that happens. I was able to do it on 2 300A MMs with miles between 5-9k.

BTW, doesn't the MM have 318 lbft in torque??

You did the shifting manually? I can't do that in my MM, it just doesn't work, the computer does the thinking and screws it all up.

Mine shifts manually - that's how I can get it to chirp on 2nd

I'll tell what I know, manual shifting is supposed to be bad for our transmission, I just can't remember why. Stock I could get a loud chirp manually shifting 1-2 at 4800 rpm's. At higher rpm's the shift was soft, with an actual pause, much worse than on Auto.

I cannot manually shift mine either it doesn't work right.have to drive it w/o me shifting it. But if i floor it when in 1st the tires smoke with about 6' to 8 'double black lines on the street behind me when it hits 2nd. :D .:burn:

I'm going along with Javier on this, it's not good. Neither can I recall exactly why.

Jerry W. explained it to me while he was rebuilding my tranny, but that was back in '03. It has something to do with internal tranny pumps not filling up on command, that result in the tranny pausing while the engine free revs as much as 1500 RPMs higher, and slamming tranny internals once the pumps do fill and discharge.

On a stock Marauder, it's probably not good over the long term, but on a modded Marauder, this can be devasting. Though the stock tranny can take 302 HP and 318 TQ, it's NOT going to take a lot more than that without showing fatigue and premature failure. IMHO, let the tranny do it's job, and as you grow into more power, remember that the tranny needs attention with mods too?

Just my .02C, carry on.

If my memory is correct, shifting manually is hard on the transmission because the overdrive band gets engaged.

Ummm...So, you are 23 after all. BTW, you may be the youngest Trilogy owner on record, congrats?

Hey...Any thoughts of driving down to Shy-Town for our chicken run? The Marauder loves OTR stuff too...

I only shift manually when I'm making a turn at a light. I hate when the computer shifts to second while I'm going from 0-20 around the corner, then dumps back down to first and roasts the tires. The fishtails that result can be fun... if not exactly safe.:burnout:

My shift habit in this instance is to put it in 1st, and then after the turn i slam it into D while still at WOT. I'm usually only at 3k rpm when I shift, in effect I'm just not allowing the transmisison to upshift in a strange situation. (hauling ass around a corner)

That is one instance where manual shifting is beneficial thanks for the tip Steve!

I think the key is to shift prior to the ear meathod. If you wait till your ear tells you to manually shift ,the trans does not respond quickly. Then it also performs exactly how the members mentioned(mis- shifts) .It's like the trans is saying, "WTF!, I was doing fine on my own"
Runnig WOT sideways through an intersection, is a bit too Braizen even for me!
Although I can claim, I do know better now!:P

I need to start doing this too. The car wants to be out of first gear too quick. I would love to be able to install a "do not shift" button on the shifter. I wonder if this could be done...
