Ok, I'm strictly an amature movie maker so I need to stress this UP FRONT! :D
Here is a video clip of the startup and shutdown of the Nexus gauges in my Marauder.
LINKY! (http://john.frieltek.com/toomanyfords/Marauder/Nexus/default.asp)
Now THAT is cool!!!!!!
Well done John....give me a call when you get a chance...I've been a little tied-up with the shop but want to hook you up with Aric.....

Once I get the ProCharger installed I will want to have a custom tune to merge the N2O with the system. It should be quite interesting, although nothing on the scale of LK!! ;)
And I can certainly understand being busy! We've got a few weeks now before I need to come down there so you get squared away and then we'll talk!
Cheers!

John:
Looks great!
I will be in the ATL area on May 19th and through that weekend if that influences your schedule in anyway.

I'd love to Marty, but that is the weekend Dutroll, Jwheeler and myself are hosting the Cedar Falls Raceway meet for the others coming to town.
We'll find another weekend this summer when I am down that way, or, over that way, or ... well, you know!
Cheers!

Not worth the money IMO. $500 for a boost gauge ($250 for gauge, $250 for command unit - only need 1) is ridiculous. I'll take my $35 gauge and spend the rest on mods.

I have... now. Wow! Those are very, very nice! They look better than I imagined.
These gauges are pricey, true, but worth every penney, imo. They are about the same as those "double" LCD digital gauges in price, but are far more interesting and look fantastic. These are also link to the control unit where there's a remote control for programming.... and you can download into a memory card data that can be played back on your PC. You can record runs at the track, then play them back later. These are great gauges. I especialy like the crisp lighting, "step" readings.
Good job John. I want them!

Nice setup, John, and congrats on the neat video too. I couldn't watch it from home, had to wait until I returned to my desk, but I am impressed by your presentation.
Sorry to say that cost does matter, it figures in there somewhere for all of us I'm sure. These gauges seem a bit pricey, when I consider the gauge array I would want on my MM. The Nexus line seems out of reach for me at this time, but I haven't made any final decisions. Thanks for the test drive?
Is our trunk organizer deal still alive? If so, I need a USPS address where I can send your money.
Oh, and please keep us posted on your ProCharger experience?

Yes, these gauges are not for everyone, but I was hoping to have something more unique to set mine apart. I sometimes wonder if some of the heated discussion that happen here in the forums is because it is so hard to differentiate our cars from one and other. Mustangs have 40 years of change to let everyone carve a niche and we have 2 years (not dissing the older pairs, but the 03-04s are what we all fight about!).
The gauges serve as more than eye candy and as Donny eluded to they store data for various runs and let me document how my car performed. I don't know any race car driver that can keep an eye on all the vital statistics that a gauge can show all while going 100+ in only 1320! I can replay the entire run and see if the fuel pressure leaned out at any particular point during a particular boost level or oil pressure level.
So, yes they are expensive. No they are not for everyone. I just hope that the video was helpful for those that may be interested, nothing more!
From those of you who liked them, THANKS!
As for the trunk organizer, I was hoping to surprise ya at the Chicken Run Sunday, but now there is a delay so the car will not be ready. I'll get it boxed tomorrow and shipped off. When you get them it will have a return address info. No problems!
And the goal is still to be done with the ProCharger so I can compete at CFR on the 20th! This time I'm bringing more cameras too!
Cheers!

That's bad a$$ - do they make a gauge for the battery? Also where did you purchase?

I got them through Summit Racing. And no, there was no volt meter so I don't have one on my car. Not that I really need one as the factory one is more for show anyway. I'm sure I can tell if the alternator quits or the battery gets low.

Last question, what does a pyrometer do?
TooManyFords
05-10-2005, 12:38 PM
It is for measuring exhaust gas temps. If your car is running lean, it will be high and rich will run low. I'm holding out for an AFR gauge in the future though!

Good point. If you are going to intergrate those features into serious data logging, then the expense may be well worth it. Best wishes on your ProCharger initiative.

If that happens then I'll have to pull the cigarette power port and put it there for now... (see ^^ msg)
I wonder if they are going to upgrade the control box for this as there is no port for any other gauges. Unless they use the USB technology and daisy-chain control boxes via the "network" port in it.
Which reminds me, I have to go get my SD card to see what it wrote on it.

I think the gauges are cool too and I would buy them if they weren't so expensive. So, don't take this post as critism. Its just my thought process...
If you were to buy all of the Nexus gauges except Nitrous pressure and pyrometer, the control module, remote, and a memory card, you would spend about $1500 - $1600. You can get a decent laptop for ~$750. You should be able to get some software that can read engine diagnostics through the OBDII port and a laptop for less than $1500 and you could have all the other engine parameters monitored as well such as injector timing, spark timing, etc.

I received this e-mail from Autometer this morning:
Tom,
Thank you for your email and interest in Auto Meter Products. We do
have plans for the following Nexus instruments:

Boost
The boost, trans temp, and tachometer are going to be the first to be
released, sometime this fall. We will most likely have the fuel level
and the rest of the instruments shipping in early 2006. We will have
updates on the website.
If you have any other questions feel free to contact us.

The project is not yet completed so you'll just have to hang in there a little longer.
As for the Nexus gauges, they already have a boost gauge and it's my top one in the triple pillar movie. I could see popping for the trans temp gauge when it comes out to put it where the cigarette lighter is. After that I'm out of places to put more.
Huzzah!
