I am pleased to report that S55 emblems replicating the SEMA car's emblems are in production!

From the email I received today:

"Production of the S55 emblems has commenced. They will be offered in RED and CHROME finishes. Red is like the original used on the car, but I figured that some might like a chrome finish because chrome looks so good on black...

I hope to have these available in about 2 weeks (3 at the latest).

...Just so you know, our emblems are METAL for superior apperance and durability. Also, unlike vinyl decals, which look nothing like emblems, they will not peel."

Here's a couple cropped shots of the SEMA car

http://www.mercurymarauder.net/gallery/data/500/medium/S551.JPG (http://www.mercurymarauder.net/gallery/showphoto.php?photo=5862&size=big&cat=500&page=1)

http://www.mercurymarauder.net/gallery/data/500/S552.JPG

Regarding other emblems that are plastic (like those sold on 5.0RESTO.COM), I have bought plastic badges in the past and removed them both times, including the "4.6" badges I bought from 5.0RESTO.COM. They just don't hold up to car washes, the "chrome" comes right off within a few months. Just ask Todd or Kathy or anyone else whose seen my car with the 4.6 emblems, and they'll tell you that the shiny silvery finish wears off very easily and you wind up with something that looks like crap. So, if it ain't metal, I ainta gonna put it on my car.

Is the badge large enough to cover the holes from debadging the trunklid? Can you do red with chrome outline? How vivid is the red?

Thanks.

I will post up a large photo of the emblem when it is ready and give dimensions. I think it will be large enough to cover the trunk emblem holes, but let's see first.

I would guess no on the outlined emblem.

Again, let me get a red emblem in hand and I'll report on it and post a pic.

Keep in mind, the S55 designation was historically the "marauder" code and does not necessarily mean the car is supercharged. Don't let that turn you off. The SEMA car was S/C'd, but the emblem harkened back to the days when S55 meant "MARAUDER"

This sounds cool. I think I might like the S55 in black. If they dont make them black, I'll paint a set of red ones.

The Gods head emblems for the front grill and trunk lid are already in production and should be available before the S55 emblems. They will be better than OEM quality metal emblems.

I will post up a large photo of the emblem when it is ready and give dimensions. I think it will be large enough to cover the trunk emblem holes, but let's see first. I trust these will have the proper curvature on the backside so's they fit below the taillight like on the SEMA car?

Not all early Marauders were S55s. The S55 cars had a more sporty interior, with bucket seats and a full-length
console. Just like ours, except the early cars didn't have leather.

I think the red emblem is gonna look great against my dark blue.
Any chance of getting the godshead emblems in black chrome? Either way, I'm still gonna want 'em...

I'm in for one on the back and a pair on the sides. Will the side versions also have the correct backs to sit flat?

Also, since we're on the subject, I have a pair of original Marauder badges from a 63, complete with the backing pins, but I was wondering if your friend could reproduce these in the same thickness etc as the S55's

If not, I'll just remove the pins on mine and use the same sticky stuff that OEM uses to attach them and create my own side logos...

Let me know Nutz!

but there's another bidder whose more interested in them than me. They are in decent, but not perfect shape, would need repairing and rechroming, which would set me back at least $100 above the bid cost. This was cool back when the bid was $20, but now it's $71, and nah, he can have it. I can get repro emblems made for that cost.

So, here's a couple shots of sizing of the new S55 badge. This is a paper print taped to my car for sizing purposes (a couple of sizes were considered) and shot on the fly one evening (my car is really dirty).

Thanks very much Donny. I already have the Marauder side badges, but a red S55 under the taillight would be cool. I'll monitor this thread and email you when it looks like things are getting ready to go.

I would also like to get in on the Godshead front and rear badges, but have no idea how to remove the old badges or what's involved in installing the new ones.

The rear badge especially is hard to access because of the OEM spoiler.

Thanks as always,

Norm

The rear badge can be removed with fishing line, use a sawing motion and be careful. There are two pins that align the badge. Go to Lowes or Home Depot and buy a plastic putty knife to help get it pried off. If you are careful, you should be able to get it removed without damaging exposed paint or your spoiler.

Well, similar to my question about the SVT origin, I guess S55 designates that the car is S/C'd?

So these would not apply to an N/A'd MM?

If the Godshead badges are the same diameter as the hockey stick front & rear badges and will cover the holes, then I'm in on those for sure.

Thanks,

Not necessarily. The original S55 package on early marauders was an over-the-counter high performance package from Ford parts dept. and it did not involve a supercharger. I'm not sure if the late model S55 SEMA car was supercharged or not.

Actually the original S55 package was a premium car model (with its own VIN ID) that started with the 1962 Monterey S55. It included bucket seats, console and floor shift, padded dash, and tri-colored wheel covers. You also got a more powerful engine. In the 1963 Marauder S55 this meant a 300 hp 390 4V and automatic trans instead of the Marauder's standard 250 hp 390 2V and 3-speed manual. The S55 model was made in 1962, 1963, 1966, and 1967. The '66 and '67 S55 was Mercury's version of the 7-Litre Galaxie, while the '62 and '63 S55 was Mercury's version of the Galaxie XL.

I was waiting a bit longer to announce this, but as Fordnut has revealed, both the Gods Head emblems and the S55 emblems will be vended by Car Motorsports. Both emblems will be better than OEM, true metal of high quality. We are very fortunate that they have produced these items for the Marauder market, and I look forward to getting them for my car. I'm expecting the Gods Head emblems to be announced very soon, as they went into production a few weeks earlier than the S55 emblems. The S55 emblems I expect are about 2 weeks away.

They'll also have a cast metal Gods Head key chain. I was thinking, depending on the size of the medallion, that it could be adapted as a replacement for the steering wheel emblem. Time will tell.

So, everybody waiting for the emblems, be patient, they'll be available soon.

OOPS! Sorry about that. I thought once they were setup as a vendor the secret could be revealed. Didn't mean to steal your thunder Donny!

I'm also anxiously awaiting the gods head emblems for the wife's car.

I believe they are going to make a gods head emblem for the steering wheel also, it will be sort of like a oversized coke bottle cap and fit over the entire OEM emblem. That's the description I got at Cracker Barrel last month anyway. I'll need a couple of those too!

The front one has a nut holding it on. The rear one is held on with trim adhesive tape, but it has two pins which align with holes on the trunklid. I removed mine by using a credit card to get it started so I wouldn't damage anything, then used a small screwdriver to pry with the credit card used as protection for the paint. Some have suggested using fishing line as a saw to cut through the adhesive.

I use the fishing line trick to remove rear badge , Worked great, Strong test 30# and sawed it back and forth, no marks at all!

Hey guys....

I asked Donny to get me in touch with the people who are making these badges and he was kind enough to do so.

I wanted to see if he would make some 'SUPERCHARGED' emblems that match the font (size etc) and color of the S55 emblems Donny is having made.

They said that if there were 12 people interested in the supercharged emblem he would make it for everyone.

If you would like a supercharged emblem to match the S55 please post here your intent. Everything will go through the same purchasing process that you will do for the rest of the badges. They may be available at the same time however with developement just starting on these now it may come slightly after the S55 emblems are available.

If Donny has anything to add regarding the process he will add it here.

Count me in. I am interested...

Unfortunatly there will probably not be a picture specifically of a supercharged emblem. To have them made we need 12 people at least. Apparently that might not be possible so I may just do something for myself on my own through this company.

Any word on the cost and when the S55 emblems will be available?

I have pricing information, but this is unofficial. Car Motorsports will be vending these, and I was told they will be $39.95 each or 3 for $99.95. Red painted or Chrome finish.

They should be available any day now.

I've spent over $40 on plastic emblems (which I assume yours is) and each one the shiney part wore off in car washings. These will be cast metal, chromed, better then OEM quality. The price is very fair considering the low production run.

Actually, I sprayed my PLASTIC 4.6 NI with 2 clear coats, ive been through the wash countless times, made it through monsoon season and the sun up at santa barbara and it looks like new. Sorry you spent so much on emblems , hope this works for all of you.

What about X-100 emblems?

Ford had an awsome oportunity with the MM!

We could have had the standard MM, an S55 package and an X-100 package! They brought the MM back, they should have gone the distance!

These are from the same company that made the underhood insulators and decklid liners. They take their time to develop products, but that helps them ensure the highest quality possible. However, I'm sure they are concerned about developing more products for a market that isn't purchasing the products they have already introduced. How many have supported them by purchasing the underhood insulators?

Do you know if the hoodliners are low profile enough to avoid contact with a small pully in front of the intake manifold?

I haven't bought a set yet, though I intend to do so. I'm waiting because I have some paint work planned for the trunk lid which will require removing the spoiler.

You do need to consider that slow sales of the UHI and trunk lid liners can be explained by the fact that a competitor beat them to the market by a few months and scooped up sales that they would have had otherwise, and that the cost of the product -- good though it is -- is something that some people need to plan for. I would think the emblems would sell well considering the pent up demand for them is not being met by a competitor and the price of admission will be relatively low.

I am concerned that slow sales of the UHI and trunk lid liners may discourage them from bringing other items for the Marauder to market, though.

No sweat here, just touching bases with this thread and stating continued interest. I'm hoping for a S55 emblem and prehaps a Godshead badge to replace the one on the truck lid. Zack is working on a grill for me, so that takes care of the front badge anyway!

The Gods head emblems for the front grill and trunk lid are already in production and should be available before the S55 emblems. They will be better than OEM quality metal emblems.

Any updates at this time??????????:D
