10 days and 1,200 miles ago I S/C my Marauder. I have been having some serious traction problems on the street particularly with the temp in the 70*'s and the humidity in the 40% which is very cool and unusally dry for us.

The past couple of days the temps are in 88-93*'s and the humidity @85%. I figure it's time to see if she will stick at the track!

I head for the Test N' Tune at No Problem and call to make sure it is open. They advise it was raining, now down to a trickle but with the heat it should dry out in an hour, call back. I keep heading for the track and call an hour latter, they advise they are open.

I am dropping/adding air and this guy comes over asking what do I run. I said best N/A 13.7, but S/C last week and I have no idea if I will get any traction. He said can we line up and run each other. I don't answer because I can see it might start to rain again and I am in a rush to get thru tech and try to make a pass.

Well sure enough while I am in the staging lane it starts to drizzle. They let the street cars run. First run I slowly get into the throttle on launch. It spins so much I let off the throttle 4 times down the track. My R/T is .245, 60' 2.099, ET 13.402 @ 104.21. I get back in the staging lanes and it starts to rain, so I turn around and head for the pits. It's 6:30pm so maybe it will stop and dry out. I park across from an Impala, it was the guy who asked to line up with me. He asked a lot of questions about my MM and then shows me his Imapala. It's a '95, with 150 shot of wet Nitrous, Headers, Ported Heads, SLP T/C, Meziere Water Pump, Programmable Computer and 275 rear tires. He works at an auto dealer and used to race alot but hasn't in 8 months.

By 7:10pm it stops to rain and drys out. We both pull into the staging lanes and line up. I am determined to make a soft 1/3 throttle launch and slowly roll onto the throttle.

My R/T is .248 to his .376. I have some spin and slow how fast I roll the accelerator, I am ahead 1/2 a car length. At the 60' I am 1.5 car lengths ahead with my 2.085 to his 2.147. He starts to catch me at the 330' with a 5.648 to my 5.561. At the 1,000' I am 10.883 to his 10.899. I am now 1/2 car length ahead but he is going faster and catching me down to 1/3 a car length. I hit 3rd gear and start to pull out on him. My E/T is 12.978 @108 to his 12.957 @107.32! I beat him by .1077, all R/T!

My next run is againest a slick trailer car, who red lites. I run a R/T .280, 60' 1.932, E/T 12.947 @ 105.66.

Next run againest an '05 GT Mustang. R/T .191, 60' 1.881, ET 12.862 @106.71. Blow the doors off the GT.

I am happy in that the last 2 runs I did not spin out by launching soft and slowly rolling into the throttle. I pull into the pits to talk to my new friend the Impala owner. I advise the track is dry and sticking. I will now try a hard launch. He offers to watch in the stands to tell me if I spin.

I line up againest a GT. I launch the same way I did N/A but at 1,000 rpms. My R/T is .007, but before I let off the throttle it hits the rev limiter. I let off then hammer it again and they just spin up in smoke, my 60' was 2.661.

I pull in the pits and the Impala owner says you don't want me to tell you, I said not really but I need to hear it. He says I had white smoke pooring off the tires all the way down. He then says you still beat the Mustang GT! :D

I made a friend with the Impala owner and his friend who was running an 11 second trailer/slick Malibu.

I have so much power the tires are just being obliterated and thats with the KDW2 255's!

I will now have to save up for some drag tires, any suggestions?

First off, nice runs. Second, get the widen wheels with the Nitto's everyone is running. Check with Lidio on that.

GREAT WORK... but you know..... and perhaps I am a sick one here. I like putting only those tires that I can run on the street... or DO run on the street.

I ran street tires on my Mustang Cobra and drove it like you mention here... rolling into the throttle. For some reason I just got a kick out of telling folks what I ran on street sneakers!

That is some fine running you did there. Especially the reaction times you were getting. Not only were you rolling into the throttle but you were getting it done in an efficient manner (it has to take a little lead time to get this big sled to even shift weight and roll out of the light) and it seems you were getting better as you went!

Smoking 'em all the way down the track.....

Quit picking on the Mustangs !

I'm in the same boat as you, can't wait to get to the track. I just don't have your skill. Glad to see you had fun and got into the 12s

The hell with widened 18' rims. On the racetrack who cares about visual cosmetics. Put on 15-16 inch steel or aluminum wheels and E/T slicks. I promise you that white smoke problem will be no more. High performance street tires are for N/A Marauders. Nitto’s are good, but wear out quickly, go for the real deal not a compromise.

Heck, just call Tire Rack and see if they can work out a volume discount on rear KDW2s if you buy in bulk.:D :burnout:
