Yesterday I went downstairs into my garage and wanted to remove the walrus nose to see what kind of sound difference there was. I measured the inside and outside diam, and headed to Home Chepot
To make a long story short, I couldn't find anything at Home Chepot to fit inside or around the outside. Things either too small to fit in, and too large to fit around.
Aside from the proverbial penut butter lid, what have you all been using that works?

I've never touched that, but in the event you ever plan on supercharging your car with a roots type supercharger like I have, I suspect that doing away with that "J" thing in the stock intake tube will make the whining noise of the supercharger much more noticeable. Some people like that, and some don't. I'm one of those who doesn't, and therefore I'm also glad that I never did away with that thing nor with the stock intake, since you can barely hear any supercharger whine on my car.
I just thought I'd throw that out there incase that would ever apply to you or to others who will read this thread. :)

I used a PVC end cap that I found in the plumbing section at Home Depot. I'm not sure on the diameter, it was awhile ago, but it fit snug inside. I painted it black and used a hose clamp to keep it tight.

Try a peanut butter jar lid. I read one time on this site that that is what one of our members used. Not kidding.

Me, too...it's for 2½" pipe.

I wasn't sure on the diameter pipe the cap was for. Don't have a chance to go out and measure until lunch. But 2.5" sounds about right, I didn't know if it was 2.5 or 3.

Maybe that's why I had the trouble - Home Chepot didn't have a 2 1/2" :( I'll look elsewhere. Thanks guys!

I used a JLT intake kit.

IT has also been suggested to take out the plastic tube and cut the sealed end off and used that to plug the hole. Unless you plan on putting it back in the intake, That sounds like the best idea.

I did exactly that, I cut off the un-ned portions and kept just the capped end.
No improvment in noise or throttle response, but it does look much cleaner and still factory.

A while ago I posted a tread asking if anyone had a significant increase in power because I did after snout removal. At the same time I did a ghetto cold air intake by wrapping the intake with aluminum tape. I thought my ghetto CAI was responsible for the new power but did not mention it in the thread. The power gain was later discovered to be from not tightening the intake back on:shake: . I can only thank my MM's guardian angels that it did not fall off and suck in a kitten.

If you look at your airbox, then follow it up via the intake piping, you'll find a j-shaped dead-ended hose 2-3/4" of an inch in diameter; half way between your airbox and throttle body.
What does it do? For an in depth discussion search the forums, but in short, it reduces intake noises.
