I took the shuttle to the airport this morning and the driver had a Magellan 300 vehicle GPS navigation system.

I like what I saw!

Can any members here recommend similar GPS units and share their experiences with them.

Thanks,

David

I have a Compaq Ipaq 5550 PDA with a Bluetooth GPS. I've been using it for a while in many states and it works great. My PDA wears many hats, it's my GPS navigator, MP3 Player, Contacts, Calendar, Notes, mail, and I can even surf the Internet with it.

The Bluetooth GPS works great. It has it's own battery and can run about 8 hours non-stop before the battery runs down.

What I like about it is that it's portable. I do a lot of traveling and I can pack the whole kit up and use it in any rental car. I even took them with me hiking in Sedona, AZ. I kept the GPS on in my backpack and could leave the Ipaq powered off until I needed it. The GPS maintained a continuous track of the Satellites. So when I needed to get a fix, I didn't have to wait for satellite acquisition.

My Mom has an older Ipaq 3870. I bought her a car mount for it from Arkon that has a built-in GPS and speaker. She uses it where ever she goes.

I use a GARMIN V in the SUPERDUTY and sometimes in the MM. It's portable and I take it when I go hunting and fishing out west and up in Ontario, love it. Also have the GARMIN map suite on the computer here allowing me to customize the maps for the areas I'm going into.

I have the Ipaq 2215 and the HP Bluetooth Nav System. I like it. It will replot your route on the fly. So, if you decide to take another route to avoid traffic it will recalculate and keep you on track. I like the idea of adding functionality to an existing gadget rather buying another gadget. One cool thing about the Ipaq rig is that you can call us destinations from your Outlook contacts. I have a windshield mount that holds my cell phone and the PDA. The BT GPS rides on a sticky pad on the dash. I was at the local diner, in my usual spot by the window, and the Ipaq was still communicating with GPS.
