View Full Version : Long tube header opinions???
I'm big time on the fence in regard to jumping on the current Kooks group buy offer from Dennis. My concern is excessive noise. I recently sold my 5.0 Mustang that had BBK shorty header, highflow h-pipe w/cats and Flowmaster catback. It sounded very nice, but was really loud inside and I'm afraid of doing that to a car that doubles as a family hauler.
Is it still quiet enough at freeway cruising speeds to carry on a conversation without raising your voice or wishing you had a set of earplugs, etc....?
I realize everyone has a different impression of loud, but I'm really agonizing over this and I'm just hoping to get something to sway me one way or the other.
Thanks.

Take a ride in Scott or Dave's car this weekend. They have Kooks. :)

I have the same concern. Thats why I am going with just the headers and x-pipe first.

It was likely that the type of Flowmaster mufflers that you had contributed more to the noise than the Kooks headers did.

I realize everyone has a different impression of loud, That's true, but it really isn't that loud with the entire Kooks headers AND 2.5" diameter exhaust package (including the 18" Magnaflow mufflers) until you get into the go pedal. While cruising, I don't think ut's bad at all, in fact, I wish it were a little louder.

My car is a business car and a family car. When I first had the Full Kook's system put on I thought it was a bit loud, but the tone mellowed after a while. It is obviously still louder then stock, but not too loud that I can't hold a convesation. Like Billy said it gets louder when you get into it, even pulling away from the curb you hear the grunt but once you cruise its fine. And like Billy I only get compliments about the sound (except from my wife, she teases me about it.)

I am a voice of one on the net with my E/S. I have the Ford Racing Cobra shorty headers and Cobra X-pipe with hi-flow CATs connected to the stock mufflers and tailpipes. My son says the car is loud on the outside. I have NO drone at 70-80 mph. MY JLT air intake is louder then the E/S. I am very pleased with this combination with perhaps a loss of 2-3 HP per muffler. I initially wanted to buy the KooKs, but only wanted the headers and not also the mufflers and could not buy them that way. A different approach!
