I have 9 days to renew my Warranty (ESP). I got a quote from Fordwarranty.com but when they found out that I live in Miami, FL they said that it is against the law to sell at a discount in FL and that my price would be $700 more than others are paying elsewhere in the country. Before I hung up I mentioned that I usually spend about my summers (about 2 months) in Maryland at my uncle's summer house. That's when she said that if I order the warranty through the Maryland address that I would save the $700. I told her that my car is registered in Florida and that the house in Maryland is not even mine but she said that it doesn't matter.<?xml:namespace prefix = o ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:office" />

Those of you who work for Ford or can get reliable information: Will ordering the ESP through my uncle's summer house (where I spend my summers) really work even though my car is registered in FL and that the house in Maryland is not even mine?

This ESP is driving me nuts! Thanks in advance for any help.

The ESP Plan is tied to the VIN of your vehicle.
Ford does not care where the car is registered.

The problem is that States have different laws
regarding out of state sales.
Florida, is looking out for their own interests
so you cannot purchase anything from a vendor
outside of Florida at a discount.

You can give them the Maryland address
and just call the people you know in Maryland
and give them the heads up that something
is coming in the mail for you.
If you really want to update the address,
wait 6 months and call the ESP people
and tell them you've moved to Florida.

In Florida, the ESP is considered an Insurance Policy, and as such, it comes under the Florida Insurance Commission. What does this mean? It means that ESP's can't be sold for less than MSRP. Even though the law was intended to keep insurance policies from being sold for more than msrp, it does not matter, it can't be sold for less either. Hope this explains the reason why.

OK. My story. I also own a Honda GoldWing. I wanted to purchase the Honda ESP while up North at my "Summer Home". While up there, I went to my Northern Dealer and purchased the ESP at a greatly reduced price. A couple days later, I happened to be visiting my dealer, having coffee in their office when the phone rang, and the office girl said, "Yes, as a matter of fact, he is standing right here". It was Honda of America in California calling, asking if I was a "Walk-In" or if I purchased by Mail or Telephone. They saw that my VIN has me listed as living in Florida. If I had purchased by Mail or Telephone, Honda would tell the Dealer that they are not allowed to sell me the ESP. As luck would have it, I had given them my Northern address, so Honda said it was ok for the deal to continue. Honda then sent me all my ESP papers to my Northern address.

Don't know about Ford, but Honda will not allow the ESP to be purchased out of State for a Florida Car or Motorcycle. Even though dealers are independant businessmen, Honda will not issue the ESP. Only way to get around it is to be a "SnowBird" and have a Northern address.

Good Luck.
