Had Flowmaster Deltaflow 40s and 3" SS tips put on my car, thanks to a Chicago local MM'er for the referral to a good muffler shop (Revpro in Lynwood).

Car sounds absolutely perfect. Perusal of the dictionary suggests the term orgasmic is not inappropriate :) I never liked like look of the rolled OEM tips, so i went with some 3" SS tips. Since they are thin walled (err...not rolled) they look alot better to me. Also ended up being 1/2 the cost of getting the OEM rolled-non-resonated tips.

Thanks to people's advice here i had my tips extended past the rear bumber. They actually look very good sticking out a bit.

Standing behind the car when he started it for the first time, i was hooked. Driving home, and ever since, its perfect. There is a delicate burbling when off throttle. The tone is deep, tuned, and never obnoxious. The only time it booms is if you have OD on and it engages at 40mph, but its gone by 45mph. I usually leave OD off unless i am over 50mph for sustained periods, so its a non-issue. Sounds wonderful winding out, and the engine does overcome exhaust notes at high rpm.

The exhaust note is loudest through 2000 rpm, and then tapers off. It's great in that rumbling around town it quite loud, very mean and turns heads... but once you get up to crusing speeds its pretty much invisible. That said, it does also boom a little past 90mph when you are on the throttle. My buddy who had an LT1 Firebird with a full Borla exhaust loved the sound as well. It is extremely civil...i really can't be happier with the exhaust.

I honestly had no idea just the mufflers and tips would make such a dramatic improvement. Anyone on the fence, for the love of Jeebus, do it. I was at the shop for maybe 90 minutes. The OEM exhaust sounds terrible, and this mild mod is how it should have come from the factory.

With tints, 4.10's, chip, intake, mufflers and tips the car at least has enough power to get out of its own way, looks good, sounds fricken great. This car is an extremely satisfying daily driver.

In terms of performance, the car does feel like it gained some power mid-high range, logically these flowmasters probably outflow the OEM mufflers. The intake and mufflers really smoothed out the car though, the GF commented how smooth the car builds speed now.

It is hard to discern which i find more pleasurable, the sound from these flowmasters, or from the turbo/bov on my Miata.

If you are really worried about sound id wager just do the mufflers and leave OEM tips. If you want a terrific mellow sounding V8 muscle sedan (you know, what we bought) then you will not be unhappy with the Flowmaster/straight tip combo.

As a final note i was going to try the Super 40s, but they do not come in SS and in the Midwest, i would prefer my exhaust to be SS. The shop even hit the muffers with paint because, well, Flowmasters ain't the prettiest, but they sure make up for it when i smack the loud pedal.

The downside is i find myself on the highway with OD off just to get on/get off throttle and enjoy the exhaust note.

Oh well, ive rambled enough. Just get them.

Cheers,
Sameer

The intake and mufflers really smoothed out the car
What kind of intake?

K&N intake. Easy install, nice sound. Very subtle growl. Car has noticeable improvements mid to high range.

Very cool! I would be interested in hearing the pipes in person or a sound byte if you can do that.

I would like to meet up with you, somewhere, somehow. I'd like to see your MM, and hear it's roar. I love new stuff, new ideas.

I'm SergntMac@aol.com, drop me a note? If it's easier and faster (as I find it) you can call me 24/7 at 312.401.1396.

Jeff and Scott are excellent. Been goin to those guys for a fews years. Jeff knew all about the MM when I brought it in for it's first oil change. I trust these guys with my keys anytime.:2thumbs: Custom exhaust is their specialty.

Darrell

I have the same mufflers and tips as you. (Purchased the car used). Although I would rather it was a little quieter, I can live with it. (Neighbors all hear me coming down the street :D ). One thing I do worry about though, I don't want the "drone" to put me to sleep when I drive long distance. In a couple weeks, I will be driving up to Rochester NY, (stay a couple days) then over to Lake George NY, (stay a couple more days) then return back to Central FL. I normally run it non stop. No problem with my Continentals, but I worry about staying awake with the exaust drone my MM has.

I have the flow 40's as well but left the stock tips in. I haven't heard one in person with tips changed out but I can imagine the great sound.

My personal choice was to leave the stock tips for 'historical value' as I plan on having a lifetime commitment to my MM, plus I didn't want it too loud and sound like a ford or chevy pickup truck (tons of loud pickups in Georgia). I wanted to retain a bit of class to the car.

I think that extending the tips probably is the ticket to eliminating all drone. Having the exhaust tips exit under the rear bumber cannot be good for resonance issues. So just make sure that you get to a shop that will extend tips a bit out.

My car has no drone at highway speeds. None. It is just nice and deeper, and actually sounds really good on the highway. Now since i am prone to cruise at 100+mph occasionally, i do notice some boom when in the throttle at those speeds, but it quiets down at cruise.

I know this setup is perfect because i constantly wish it was a little louder, and that is a good thing for a large sedan.

Sameer, if you are happy that is all that counts. I have Flowmaster Super 40's on my car with DR's Ported/Ceramic Coated Manifolds, high flow cats through an X-pipe and a complete 2.5" to the tall pipes (which are stock). My car sounds very aggressive and high tech around town. Yet nice and quiet with no interior drone on the highway in o/d. I absolutely love the sound of my car. I get numerous compliments whoever hears it. As in numerous threads here on exhaust sound, it is a personal preference for each an every one of us. Sounds like you are as pleased with your cars exhaust as one can be...and that is cool.......Another bad A** sounding Marauder.
