I know there have been a lot of posts here about members getting repaints. I have read a lot of them. But, I could not really tell if many people have been successful at this, or if not many have actually tried to get a repaint. And I haven't seen any fairly recent posts on this subject, the last being more than a month ago. I seem to have the same white "acid rain" spots on my car, and it seems as though they are getting bigger. I have not gone to the dealer yet, planning on it today on my way home from work. I know its not rain, or stone chips, or anything else the dealer will tell me. I'm just afraid if I don't act on this soon, I will have hundreds of white spots all over my hood and roof that I will have to pay for to repair. Is there any new information from anyone that has gotten Ford to do a repaint for them?

I've been taking my car back to the dealer at least once a month, make them look at it, get documents that I was there for the paint issue, I've taken pictures of the car while the techs are looking at the car. They still deny responsibility but I have documents and pictures just in case someday something can/will get done.

Is not acid rain, don't buy into that. It is contamination of the paint after primer was applied. I had complete repaint done under warranty, no more white spots.
if it's acid rain the white spots would return, and all other cars I own would be spotted, they are not.

Ford is crying poor, if you find a dealer who will listen, I would be interested to hear which one .They have tightened up to the point, that makes me wonder what the future may hold.Good Luck! and please tell us what you find out.

03Marauder,

What did you use for the Red Paint you used on your Calipers? Did you Spray it on, or did you brush it on?

I brush painted the calipers. I used a kit that I bought from Autozone and I also saw it at Walmart. It came with caliper cleaner and the paint. I think it was Dupont, not sure, I can check when I get home. I used a little acid brush, I think, and put about 3 coats on. It's been a few months, and they still look great. They get a little dirty, but the dirt rubs right off.

I received a 3/4 repaint last year a month after purchase. Back quarters were still good and bumpers were OK too.

Job guaranteed for the life of warranty period.

I had them measure paint thickness at several points on the car.

Found enough thin paint to get it covered.

David

I have problems with thin paint, bare spots in the doors (I can see primer) and white dots appearing. And plenty of orange peel on the B pilliars, doors and around the rear view mirrors.

After two years, the body shop has a new manager, so I finally got to get someone to look at it. :cheesed: They said the white dots are rock chips. Even the ones on the back. They said that 'some orange peel is desirable, because the sun reflects better off it'. I **** you not. They actually said that. :mad2:

But they would spot paint my rear door jambs where they could see primer. I had an appointment last monday to take it in, but after a sane second thought, I'm not letting the dealer I bought the car from touch my car ever again. I'm going to start taking it to the only SVT dealer in town. Hopefully they hired someone who won't assume I'm a complete moron.

The service manager at my dealer asked me if I got my info on the black paint being a common problem from this site. He said he knows of this site. And said that most of the posts are wrong.
Then blamed my paint on bird crap and sent me on my way.

I wish I would've told him that if this site is wrong, that'd explain why when the site told me that the Merc was a quality product and yet I have paint that can't take bird hit.

I had all the same issues with my paint. It took numerous trips to the service dept, but they finally agreed to have a FORD Service Rep come and review my issues with the paint. Luckily, he agreed that the paint was:
1. Defective due to improper prep and that it should not have had trash (fuzzies) under the paint from the factory.
2. Confirmed what I had told the Service manager, that "NO" you can't just buff it out.
3. They (FORD) agreed to repaint the entire car except the bumpers.

I went to the the shop that was to perform the work and met with the owner and head painter. Great Guys. I asked them to shave the rear badge from the trunk and if I could get them to put some Blue, Copper, Emerald Green and White Pearl in the clear coat. They said no problem, I just had to fork out 300 bucks to get the bumpers completely repainted also so they would match. When the car was done and delivered back to the dealership, the Service manager had a S#$% Fit. He says " That car is not the same factory color and your new paint will not be covered under warranty". It is the factory black and when the light does not hit it the car looks like the original black. It only sparkles with the subtle colors of pearl when it is sunny out or when lights at night hit it. Anyways I ended up getting a custom paint job for 300 bucks, that is 10 times better than the factory paint in quality and application. It was not easy and all I can say is be persistent. I also took my car to 3 different reputable Paint and Body shops and had them give me a written assesment of my paint and how it would have to be fixed. That seemed to help in getting the ball rolling in them bringing out a third party Ford Rep.
