I've noted several Marauders with their original equipment wheels painted(?) black...:cool4:
I would like to have black wheels and I have painted wheels in the past with epoxy paint ...
however they were not polished finish wheels to begin with...so they held the paint real well...
Those of you with black wheels, please give me some pointers on how this was done and how did they hold up?:help:
Thanks, Walt. (Architect)

I'd hate to see you ruin these rims that will be all the more rare down the road...I see the spares for sale on Ebay and stuff all the time.

Mine are not painted.
They are powdercoated. I have painted wheels in the past as well. But if you want a wheel that holds up and appears OEM, have them powdercoated, not painted.

What Barry said....
Brake dust wreaks havoc on painted wheels.....it dulls the gloss finish quickly, especially on gloss black paint.
Powdercoat is almost bulletproof....plus it is MUCH HARDER than paint and very resistant to brake dust and chipping.
In order to powdercoat the OEM rims the Powdercoater must sand/media-blast your rims until they are dull and the pores of the aluminum 'rough',.... so that the powder will adhere to the metal properly.

Walt, check out Tire Rack and the Kazera Wheels for our cars. They have a sharp looking black spoke wheel which you can get in a 18 X 9.5" rear wheel (so you can run with Nitto Drag radials) with 18 X 8" front wheels with a polished rim. Real sharp. Then you can keep your stock wheels.

I would take off your OEM polished wheels and store them in your garage. They are worth their weight in gold, imo. Consider running these, which are available from Tire Rack under $200 and fit.

Lots of good advice guys....I really appreciate the input...:D
I'm sure I will check out after-market wheels first...I really hate to modify the stock wheels....would rather keep them for the next owner....
but if I decide to modify them, I'll try and locate someone who can powder coat them here in Memphis....
Thanks again,

While you're shopping, Walt, you need to know certain measurements.
The MM uses a 5 lug, 41/2" bolt pattern, with a 50mm offset. I haven't found any 50mm offset wheels yet, but I just installed a set with a 35mm offset and they fit just fine, so, somewhere between 50 and 35mm, you'll be okay. Happy motoring...

I considered going with the Ford M-1007-F500B wheels. Dealer quoted me $215 a piece and if you wanna save money the "replica" versions are $159 a piece, just missing the Ford logo. Both are 18" x 9"
