I installed the remote oil filter. In addition to not spilling oil all over the crossmember and steering rack, it increases capacity since it uses the FL1A style filter. BTW, the oil deflector won't fit on my car because it has the CVPI oil cooler and the lines/fittings are in the way. I've been planning to install this for a long time, just been waiting to see if air-air intercooler pipes will clear this position. Dennis' pipes tuck in really nice and give me the room I need. Notice all ths empty space from the Mustang fan shroud? Look colsely and you'll see the electric water pump pulley and the extra idler next to the power steering pump to reduce belt jumping.

Isn't there an adapter that places the oil filter at a 90 degree angle from where it is now ? That might also move the oil filter to a more frontward location, hence make it easier to remove. I know the street rod guys use it due to narrower frame rails. Just a thought.:)
And of course AFTER I wrote this I looked at your picture. Thats cool, I want one!

Does the FL-1A use the same bypass filter (rated at the same specs) as the FL-820S?
As for the extra idler, I too noticed the available "peg" on the cover to install extra idlers however I've never heard of the 00-up FEAD belt jumping off.
Ford left off an idler on the 5.4L V8 in the van as well, its about in the same location as the extra one you installed.
We can't use the adapter that moves the filter 90* because the steering rack is in the way (on the pre-03 at least). I've seen this setup on Mustangs and IIRC the 05 Mustang GT as well.
