Sounds like a great autosports complex!!

I'll sign it and leave a comment as well.

I love how all the 'soccer moms' complain about street racing and how many young drivers are killing themselves while driving too fast on public highways.......
yet they vehemently oppose any new racetracks being built nearby....'NIMBY' syndrome at its worst!

We are about to lose a local Drag strip (75-80 Dragway) at the end of this season.....It's being sold because the've built houses very close to it and the natives are restless for peace and quiet AND more $800,000 'McMansions'.... :( :shake:

I was just asking if a million people sign this thing, does that mean somebody has to fork over the money to make it?

This sort of crap pisses me off! It's like moving near an airport (and getting a good deal on your house) and then complaining because there are airplanes flying over your house! Gimme a break!

It's that typical "Hooray for me and to hell with everyone else" attitude. Okay, let me stop, because I know I'm probably preachin' to the chior. Maybe I need to go romp on my car now, but I'll checkout what Marty was talking about too. BTW, maybe I'm a little behind the times on this one, but what does "NIMBY" mean? Is that something like "YUPPIE"?

I thought Last Year was the end Of the Long Island Dragway?? That track is so ghetto, I swear its a uphill track lol Not only that, Its a pain in the ass to keep walking to the tower to get your time slip cause the Booth at the end of the strip never seems to have paper, or the computer isnt working. I could go on and on about how crappy that place is, But It is rather close and you can make as many runs as you want due to the smaller amount of people compared to English town or Atco.

Englishtown gets sued every other year over this crap. they have been around since 1965 in the middle of nowhere. now there are tons of mcmansions(love that term) out there. Despite the fact the track was grandfathered in they still have a 5pm curfew on mufflers now and try to get closed down regularly...feh..

Woohoo Riverhead Raceway, I've spent many a drunken Memorial day or Labor day there for the Enduro and ther 'races'.

When I grew up out east, nothing but sod, potatoes, and a peach orchard. Now, McMansion's and starter castles all the way to Manorville. I can hear the whining now..... much less imagine who could afford to buy land to build a track on.

IS Calverton still open? Maybe they could use the runway there?

Yep - I work in the Hanger Complex at the intersection of both runways (we own the Control Tower). The Town owns the runways & the one attempt to open a track on this site was shot down.
I've been trying to get a few people interested in a low profile run on the 7000' runway - weather has been pretty crappy lately.

I was on the way there for the FFW, speed limit on all roads within a 3mi radius of Etown is 25, i was doing around 30, lady standing on her front lawn starts screaming at me "You FU**ING A**HOLE, what is your FU**ING problem?? Can't your FU**ING read?????" she points to the speed limit sign, while her two childern are playing in the front lawn 6 feet from her, they couldn't be any older than 8, and she's using this type of language in front of them. I pulled over to the side of the road and i shouted out my window, "Nice parenting, and when your childs school calls and said your son told someone to 'F (didn't use the word) off', you'll probly blame TV or music for it won't you?" She started flipping out at me again telling me to "Shut the FU** up before i kick your A**", I opened my door and she screamed and ran into the house, her husband walked out the door and started walking over to me, i thought i was going to have to throw down but he was really a nice guy. He apologized for his wife's behavior, and told me she did it all the time. I told him that i was a teacher and a certified parent educator trained in child development (i really am) and he should caution his wife against using language like that around the kids or else they would start using it. He told me they already did and that she and a few other parents in the area blamed it on movies and music and have already held a few demonstrations at a nearby entertainment store. (typical!!!). He also said she does 50 down that road on any given day and that he's really getting tired of this happening.

I hate these ignorant people, all a bunch of hypocrates. Long story short, heck yea i'll sign that petition!!!

All these stories about Lawn Guyland making me home sick. Does anybody remember Islip Speedway down off of route 111 . You could hear them hot rods running on a Saturday night all the way to Brentwood down by Suffolk Ave and and Fulton Street. Great demolition derbys and figure eight racing. That was a speedway. (Man do I miss Tony's Pizza in North Brentwood )

I got a story for ya, and it happened along this line...

My son attends Thornton-Donovan school in New Rochelle, NY.
The school is one of the oldest Shoolhouses in the USA.
I don't mean a School ina building either.
It is a HOUSE that was converted to a school more than 105 years ago.
This is the way schools were for many of our grandparents.

Well the neighborhood is very quaint, and its laced with million dollar homes.
The neighborhood doesn't like when we drive through in the morning to drop our kids off at school,
and they don't like it when we park our vehicles on the street waiting for our kids to be dismissed.
So one of the idiot neighbors, decided to get a petition going to have the streets converted to NO PARKING ZONES.
A couple months later, the entire circle is riddled with NO PARKING SIGNS, and we are told
we can't park our cars on the block when we pick up our children from school.

Now these people know very well that there is a SCHOOLHOUSE on their block.
And not having anything to do with their time, they all signed the petition and bit their nose off in spite of their face.
There were a few who had enough sense to not sign the petition but 75% of the circle signed it.
So this past October, the homeowner's vehicles that were parked in the street
were riddled with parking violations.
When they went to court, to fight the summonses, the Judge was prepared for them...

"Isn't this YOUR NAME on this petition ???"
"Didn't you REALIZE what you were signing ???"
"Get outta my face, pay your summons, and don't let me catch
any of your cars on the street again..."

The few neighbors that didn't sign the petition were excused and they also had the NO PARKING signs removed from their curb.

But this leaves the school, which NEVER was never involved in any part of this
with NO PARKING signs all around its property border, and they have no power
to have them removed at all.

This is NOT FAIR and yet we have to deal with it everyday.
I would understand of the kids attending the school were unruly and disrespectful,
but there are only 160 kids in the entire school, and they have one class for each grade from Kindergarten to twelfth grade.
Every year, the colleges come to the school looking to recruit the graduates of Thornton-Donovan.
These are some of the brightest minds that will undoubtedly shape the future of our world.

Do these kids really deserve this ?
If moving into the same block as a school, would upset these people,
WHY DID THEY MOVE THERE ???
