Look what I just found on ebay. This price sounds too good to be true for such low miles. What does the seller mean about the "rebuilt title"? Can someone check the VIN on this one? Its very close to me.... :coolman:

I'm not sure about a rebuilt title, but it sounds very close to a salvage title, which indicates an insurance "totalled" claim, and the car is then rebuilt. Again, I'm not sure, but this seems like a close variation. I'd steer clear.

Yep. Rebuilt = Salvage. Which means a Insurance company has totalled the vehicle out and someone bought it and repaired it.
Bad mojo, stay far away. These rebuilds can be everything from severe frame damage, to cut and welded front clips, or on the flip side, could just be border line write-off with damage to all the panels and wheels, which would create enough value to write it off. A 03 Marauder only needs to take about $9-11k of damage to be considered a write-off.

One of these cars would be a great project car to make into a convertable.....

So we all have salvaged cars then?
That was horrible of Ford to take some wrecked Grand Marquis, fix it, and sell it as a MM. I wondered why the reciept showed Marquis :P

Thats a possibility, unless you bought it brand new.

I definitely will steer clear of this one but just out of curiosity I emailed the seller for a further explanation of why the car has a "rebuilt title" and this was his reply:
HI,
I AM A DEALER. I BOUGHT THE VEHICLE IN AN INSURANCE AUCTION. IT IS A
INSURANCE RECOVERY. IT HAD DAMAGE TO THE PASSENGER REAR QUARTER PANEL. THEY
REPAIRED THE PASSENGER REAR QUARTER PANEL DAMAGE.VEHICLE HAS BEEN STATE
INSPECTED. VEHICLE IS IN EXCELLENT CONDITION.

That doesn't seem to add up to a 'total' to me. Would it add up if the rear axle had to be replaced along with some suspension parts and rim?
Maybe it was stolen and wrecked and they had already issued a check out before it was recovered.

Could also be a flood car. I would stay away.

A vehicle with that title can not be fully insured, ie: collision, comp... Unless you can afford to take the chance, stay away.

Seller has two other cars up for auction, both with salvage titles, and his profile says 10 auto auctions since July of '02. Great feedback too.
A salvage title doesn't bother me, at the right price. Starting the bid at 17K isn't the right price.

Please explain, I am not familiar with such a resriction.

This car probably was damaged on passenger side; examine picture #4 on right side showing interior.
No question there, pillar is definitely damaged.

Please explain, I am not familiar with such a resriction.Maybe its only NYS, but once a insurance company has paid for a totaled car, the car becomes salvage and can not be reinsured for replacement, only for liability. I know several people who either bought back their wreck or bought someone elses. One person was not aware of the restriction and was very unhappy.
