I've decided to get my windows tinted (35% all-around which is legal in the state of Kansas). The place I went to can do it for about $200.00. The only thing that makes me nervous is the fact that it's a film they apply to the windows. Is there not another method where-by they spray the tint on the Window? If so, any recommendations as to which is better?

I'm just nervous about bubbling if it's a film. I've seen cars out there that look down-right aweful. Probably "do-it yourself-ers" but I don't want to take a chance.

Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

BTW, the place I'm leaning towards is Alta Mere in Olathe. Any of the KC folks have any other places they could recommend or know of Alta Mere?

Thanks a bunch.

A quality tint job will last. So do not try and $kimp here.
You dont want it sprayed.
The only other alt. is buying glass already tinted.
Like we do when we build cars from scratch.

The film is fine as long as you go to a quality shop that uses a quality product. And $200 quote indicates that's what you've found, assuming they're willing to guarantee their work.

OEM windows are a little different, but I've never heard of any aftermarket tinting, other than film.

The place that tinted my windows has been around for a while, and offers a warranty against bubbling, etc. I know of others that do the same...

IMHO, the best advertising for a tint place is a car that was done there, several years ago. Try to find someone that has dealt with the installer before, and get their experiences...

Tinted my windows with Lumar at 28% all around (darkest legal in FL). Lumar guarantees against bubbling (among other things) for as long as you own the car at ANY Certified Lumar Dealer nation wide. Best part of all is that it cost me only $100. My father knows a guy who knows a guy… well you get the point.<?xml:namespace prefix = o ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:office" /><o:p></o:p>

They do in fact offer a lifetime guarantee so, I guess that good. They are also a national chain which makes me feel a little more at ease. I'll do some research against the Better Business Bureau to see if there is anything out of the ordinary.

Thanks for the response.

Not to hijack your thread Val, but I was thinking of tinting to and had yet a different question.

I wanted to make all my windows match, front to rear and still remain legal. What % of tint is the factory front and rear windows? (so I know what to ask for on each)

Also, has anyone seen tint in any different colors?

Thanks in advance.
John

TMF,

There are different colors and also shading from light to dark and vice versa, and also mirror tint. This was posted in an earlier thread:

You will not need to worry with bubbling.

Cars that you see that have bubbles are cars that went to auto zone or a simular store and bought and installed the tint themselves. That inferior tint will bubble, turn color over a year or so, and look horrible.

I've never had problems from a tint shop's materials.

According to the person at the place where i had mine tinted, the different colors are novelty items and only sold at places like Autozone and Parts America. If you buy it and have them put it on you don't get a gaurantee. The only one's that the tint shops will do is the smokes and the gradient (smoke-silver) and vice versa depending on how you want it oriented. My job cost me 249.00 35% all around, legal for Missouri.

Hey John, not to worry. I hadn't thought of the different colors. I'm glad you asked it.

BTW ... Love your new AV!

A word of caution. Read this (http://www.mercurymarauder.net/forums/showthread.php?t=13913&highlight=window+tint). Post #6 is of interest.

Thanks for the heads up. I did request 35% tint, however failed to ensure that they are aware the our MM's already have 75%. I'll make certain I tell them that when I actually get them installed.

Yeah, it's funny. I told them I wanted to stay "legal". They said 35% will be "legal". Then they ask you sign a waver that thye ar not liable for the "illeagle" tint"
I said, "Whoa, I asked for tint at the legal limit."
They say, yeah, in your case it will be, but the "policy" is to have each tint job include this waver.
Side note: EVERY car in the lot had limo dark tint all around, and a current inspection sticker.... go figure.

When you work there and do it everyday, its nothing to yank it off the windows and put it back. My state only requires the front doors to have 35% tint so if thats the case there, they only have to re-do the two windows each year.
