Same day (last Friday), less than two miles apart.
EB I-94, near I-69, southern Michigan. 2006 Corvette Convertible. Beat him by about half a mile at about 148mph (indicated).
Changed freeways onto NB I-69 to go north to Lansing. Same Corvette convertible joined by a friend in an '03/'04 Corvette (looked like a Z06 because of the roofline). Beat 'em both at over 155mph.
Probably a little slow because I forgot to turn off the AC.
But the tunes out of the pipes in the back were sublime. :burnout:
Ahhhh . . . . . summer!

Didn't you just post about "risky" behavior in the Fox News thread about the MM accident? Just curious !!!

Yep - sure did. Not a soul on the road, or passenger in either car. They both came up and chose to race me, and I chose to race back. If there was anything (or anyONE) else around, it was a non-starter. For me, anyway.

Just a heads up....I would be careful in that area, since there is a Michigan State Police post in that general area of Lansing. Hate to see you get pulled over. I was over in that area several weeks ago and the MI State polices were every where that day.

Yes, 155 in a 65 (?) would be disasterous :( "Officer I was only doing 90 over"

I didn't think an MM could do 155 mph even with the 3:55 gears let alone
4:10's??????? I"d have to see it to beleive it.....

... If you look at my baseline dyno vid posted by Bonedriver, my speedo was breaking out of 140 and heading towards that hypothetical 160....

The other car must also nail the gas for it to be a race.... But on public
roads, Get off the crack and bring it to the track.

I know, I gave it to him a couple years ago, since he's had to be good ( no MM ) it goes to this guy who is more deserving of it.

Well, let's take a peek?
The Marauder at the center of this discussion is a Kenny Brown build, it has 4:10 gears, 255/50/18 rear tires, .71 OD final drive ratio, and a Vortech blower with 8 PSI. Presuming that it doesn't run out of steam before it reaches speed, 155 MPH is 5400 RPM and therefore, it's possible, in theory. In fact, the engine won't reach it's RPM redline until just a tad over 175 MPH, again, in theory. However, like the gentleman who suggested dyno speeds, actually moving 4400 pounds down an open highway at this speed will face sufficient challenges as a blunt object moving against the wind, and violent reaction to disruption in road surface. On a smooth, closed track, things could be different.
Posted here 04-07-05, in a discussion of driveshaft vibration;
When I did the open track at MIS event last year, I had the Marauder up over 100 mph the entire time I was on the oval, for the most part around 135-140 mph, a few times I went higher than that, all the way up to the highest of appx 155 mph.
I believe Dave, and I believe he had 3:55 gears back then, which would have brought the RPM down to just over 5200. Again, if you have the steam, and the right pavement, it's possible.
Without taking anyone's side on this, let's examine the ethics at play here. Some of you are critical of this particular kill story, others are, well, their silence is deafening? But, what's really going on, raises a question about our ethics, IMHO. Look at the facts?
The posted limit in Michigan is 70 MPH, and if 155 MPH was achieve, that's just a bit more than twice the posted limit.
However, in other "kill stories" posted here, apparently conducted on city/urban streets, one is left to conclude that those speeds also reach twice the posted limit, and there doesn't appear to be as much disapproval shared in those threads, as has been shared here. When someone posts that they went WOT from a stop light, and let up after the 2-3 shift, that's pretty damn fast for a city street and mods notwithstanding, I'd guess at least 70 MPH on any MM.
I happen to know that N40GL is a trained professional driver. He's spent some time behind my 1x wheel and I know his capabilities, as well as the condition of his MM. This isn't approval, but it's a fact I take into consideration. Moreover, the highway in question is limited access, and this, again, is not approval, but a fact I take into consideration. There are no parked cars kids can dart out from behind, no cross traffic, and very little debris to contend with, in contrast to urban streets. So, why so much grief over this road kill, and cheers for the street kill? What makes one event automatically more dangerous than the other? Triple digits? Sorry, I don't get this Race-ism.
Carry on, gentlemen.

I don't discriminate on either one, and when it comes to ethics, we have cops on board here that think what they do on the street is great and post it, while the next day hand out violations on the same behavior......  :bs:
It's only a matter of time when a Vendor will be sued for their power adder cause a knuckle head killed someone or themself because their's no warning label about the hazzards of using their product.

I don't discriminate either way. What's wrong is wrong regardless of where it occurs. I agree that the risks are reduced here. But, there are still risks. What if you lose brakes? It takes a long time for an MM to slow from 155 w/o brakes. What if the engine stalls and you lose power steering? Mustangs are know to start stalling when blowers are added (rare but occurs). Mine stalls on occasion. What if a tire blows and sends you across the median? A 70 vs. 155 head on collision wouldn't be fun. What if a deer crosses the highway? They're more likely to do so on a highway vs. the city.....
I share your puzzlement Mac on why there is more backlash in this thread. Perhaps people are getting more courage to speak up or perhaps they are finally getting fed up with the stories.
/off my soapbox.
