View Full Version : OEM amp

I picked a helluva time to ask this (it's 12:10 AM local), but I can't recall if our OEM setup includes a separate amp for the cabin speakers and sub, or if the sub itself has its own amp.

Here's the deal.

I already had the OEM sub removed from the system and replaced with a custom wave box, Kenwood sub, and Concept mono amp for the sub. The time has come to upgrade the cabin system, which has already had all the speakers replaced with Concepts. Does the OEM head unit supply all the wattage for midrange and highs, or does it have an amp that boosts the wattage of the head unit? If so, where is the amp? If not, well, I guess it will be speaker level inputs.

And there's a bit of a time factor here, so any of you late birds or early risers in the know, pipe in. I'll check the board before work in the morning.

I'm heading over to the ATL to set up some mod work and drop in on Todd, so any help is appreciated.

Donny,
The Head Unit has four channels of amplification in the unit, no external amps except for subwoofer channel.

Thanks Bill. I was able to get by Maggamaxx this afternoon and arranged an install of a 4 channel Concept amp to boost the cabin speakers, and they're gonna port the trunk as well as boost up the subwoofer amp. That should sound pretty awesome at least until the Concept head unit is released (pretty soon, I hope).

This is a double din head unit that will fit in our dash. It has an LCD screen that flips open for access to the CD/DVD drive. It controls a remote DVD multiplayer or CD play, plus has DVD nagivation and satellite radio. And MP3 player. I don't know if it has an Ipod interface or MP3 keg interface. According to what I was told, there will be two models. One, as pictured, is controlled with buttons around the outer edge of the head unit, buttons are backlit like our head unit. The second model will have a touch screen. Both will operate remote screens that can be mounted elsewhere in the vehicle (headrests, roof, etc.) It's directly compatable with Concept's line of amps and speakers.

The concept web site only shows the button controlled model and price shows "TBA." This unit is being shown around at electronics shows now... CES? SEMA? dunno. Release is supposed to be later this summer.

I was told this beats the snot out of the Kenwood, which we know from pics posted here also fits the Marauder.
