The passenger side front window won't go down with either control. Acted up briefly at 34,000 miles, but started working again after a few minutes. Now, there's nothing for several days-----oh yes, I'm now at 37,000 miles. Yes, I know, I should have taken the time to report a problem but I didn't.

Anyone else have a similar problem? I will be taking the door apart this weekend, hoping to find a loose connection like with my woofer.

I had a similar problem with the driver window at about 15,000 miles. It didn't work for about a day. Then, it just started working again. No problem since. Can't remember if I had the dealer look at it to replace the switch or not. :o My passenger side window was sticking and I had the dealer realign the window guides.

Good luck. I had the passenger side motor replaced under warranty, and the driver side (regulator?) crapped out too.

Here is a quick way to see if there's a loose / no connection or the motor is just jammed.

1) Close the doors
2) Turn the interior lights on
3) Turn the key on
4) Watch the interior lights while you operate the offending switch
5) If the lights dim the motor is jammed
6) If they don't dim there is no connection to the power window motor. Check the switch to see if you have power to it and to see if your getting power to the correct pins (depending on the switch position).

If the lights dim, using your fist or a rubber mallet bang the inside door panel close to the window motor while operating the switch. Most times the motor will "free-up" and will work OK for a while.

IMO there is a problem with the window motor.

Motor, take it in right away, they will change under warranty, you may have to get tough, don't take no for an answer.

This has been happening a lot with mine too. It's the regulator...and the damn thing's got a malevolent intelligence to it; every time it craps out, I take it in for service...and it starts working again the minute I hit the service bays. THE DEALERS WON'T FIX IT IF IT AIN'T VISIBLY BROKE. Ya gotta sneak up on it...next time it breaks, just quickly drive straight to the dealer and fake that sucker out...

Yep. My front passenger is about to get replaced under warranty.

I had the exact same thing happen at about 3500 miles. For an entire day the damned thing wouldn't work on the driver's side. The next day it worked perfectly. At 11,000 miles now and no repeat. (?)

My 1997 crown vic blew several windows regulators and window motors. At one point I took it in with one window that wouldn't go up and one window that wouldn't go down. Service writer thaought that was pretty funny :) During Florida's summertime afternoon thunderstorm season. Darn good thing I had Ford ESP on it.

My driver's side front window works, but seems to bind and rub as it goes down. I'm taking it to the dealer since it's still under warranty.

Been through this. They will want to lubricate the tracks. It'll work for about 1/2 day. You gotta insist on track realignment for the best cure to the binding window. :D From what I understand from reading here, this window problem has persisted in Panther platforms for nearly the past 10 years.

I know. Already dealer already tried lubricating the tracks, didn't work.

I had a problem with the power windows 5 or 6 months back. I lowered all four windows shortly after starting the vehicle. Couple minutes later I tried to bring them back up, and they would not move. Turned off the vehicle, turned it back on tried to raise the windows again, and nothing happened. It was around 40 degrees that morning and I had to drive with my windows open. I was freezing my @$$ off. Drove a few miles down the road and tried to raise them again and they all went back up fine. I was gonna take it in to have it checked out, but the problem has never come back.

undefinedThis is a common problem with the Crown Vic/Marquis windows - its usually the regulator mechanism, and 30K to 40K is exactly when it craps out - its not repeat not usually the motor, its the regulator mechanism - I've had CVs & Marquis for years and have probably replaced 6 regulators - its about a $200 -$300 job, and if you're lucky, you'll only have to do 1 or 2, not all 4 - good luck.

I've been busy and hadn't gotten around to taking the door apart to see what was wrong with the window. Last week, I accidently hit the passenger side window control, and down it went. It would go up and down fine except if I completely closed it. Then it would stick again. Quickly cycling between up and down (on the switch) would "break" the window loose, and it would then come all the way down.

With the window down a few inches, I heavily soaked the weather stripping, along the top of the door, with a silicon spray lubricant. The window has worked fine ever since!! :) :)

:mad2: Same thing happened to the driver's side on my MM today. I think you guys have led me in the right direction. Today was extremely hot and it would not budge. However, went out a few minutes ago and now the thing works like a charm. I believe I will take it in and have the dealer look at realigning the window. Thanks guys..

Did you hear any funky noises like a loud POP ?.

Our Panther cars have DISPOSABLE window regulators .....

My Town Car went thru both fronts within 3 months when I bought it(used).

The regulators have a chintzy azz cable that is prone to rust ... which ultimatley ends up SNAPPING like a twig sooner or later.

Suggested replacement intervals should be listed right alongside things like tranny fluid replacement.

Yikes ... WTF am I STILL doing awake at this time ...

Presuming you don't want to replace a crappy part with another equally crappy part, are there any alternatives?

Mine just a few days ago started messing up on the passanger side also, 37000 miles, it was only a few times so far and only lasted a few seconds.

I'll see what I can find out, I think it is a relay, something in the electrical.

Before you tear the door apart, try what I did----which was to lube the weather strip across the top of the door. It may be, that in hot weather, the weather strip gets "sticky". The regulator seems to be fine, and the window goes up and down just fine now also.

Quickly moving the switch from up to down was enough to break my window loose. A second person, pushing down on the window with a hand on each side of the window, while someone else works the switch should also get it loose----if the window just needs lube and not a new regulator.

Yeah, my rear passenger window does the same at 61000 miles. For some reason it goes down fine but I have to coerce it back up (a few inches at a time).

I almost forgot......Has anyone had probs with the driver window popping out at the top right corner (outside looking in) when they roll the window up??? I have to roll it down a bit then roll it back up and it goes in place.

Same problem here. Front passenger side sticks on the way up. I'm bringing it in next week along with some other minor warranty repairs.

No?

Manual crank mod perhaps?
