View Full Version : Is there something wrong?

Hey guys,
I've read stories about stock MMs pulling away from cars at the top end or at highway speeds. Well, I'm not sure if something's wrong with my car or not, but I haven't had that happen yet.
My first try was with an '05 V6 Stang coming back from Minneapolis. Had O/D off, punched it, the car dropped a gear and I looked in my rear view mirrow to see he was keeping up. I was pulling away very, very slowly.
The second occurance happened just yesterday. Pulled up beside a late model Camaro. Looked like a Z28, but didn't have the badges. Came off the light normally to 80km, I was ahead by a couple of car lengths when I looked in the mirror again and could tell he was coming after me. Dropped it out of O/D again and hammered it. I looked back again, and saw that I kept the gap between me and him. No pulling away.
Is this normal? Or should I be blowing them into the weeds? The only mods I have are in my sig. :alone: The only other planned mod currently are 4.10s, which I don't think will help in the top end.

Nothing's wrong. With a tune and a CAI your car will perform exactly as you described. You will hold your advantage once you are under speed. To really start pulling away from people, you will have to open the checkbook again. A set of 4:10 gears should round your car out nicely. The difference between a bone stock MM and one with a tune and 4:10 gears is amazing.;)

Three things.....
first, 4.10's WILL help all the way up to about 120 MPH, so you'll be quicker on the highway too, unless you're talking about racing above 120 MPH, and if you're doing that, then that's pretty insane IMO.
second, you haven'y any idea what those guys did to their cars, unless you know them personally, and were able to talk to them before or after that little challenge.
Third, Camaros with V8 engines, (especially if it was an "SS") are no slouchess. However, I'm sure that it wasn't an "SS", because he would've smoked you if it was. Camaros and Mustangs are a lot lighter than Marauders are, and they don't even need as much power to carry the weight of the car as fast as a Marauder needs.

I know, I know, you've hammered it into my head a million times, Billy, 4.10s
:D . And I'd never take the car to those speeds on a public road. That's just plain crazy.
I'm pretty sure the Stang was stock, we just met up on the highway out of Minneapolis. The Camaro certainly wasn't an SS, it had the rectangular dual exhaust tips of the Z28 but it had round foglights in a similar position to ours instead of the rectangular ones flanking the licence plate. I hope it wasn't only a V6 Camaro. :depress:

. I hope it wasn't only a V6 Camaro. :depress:If it was, and he had a freer flowing exhaust, and you guys were approaching the triple digit MPH mark, then the weight definately comes into play. At the drag strip, even a change of merely 300 LBS makes a substantial difference in ET's. And I believe Camaros are about 600 LBS lighter than Marauders. You're carrying around a lot of weight there pal. Which BTW also makes a substantial difference when it comes time to stop that rig too.
Even if you're not into going to the drag strip with your car, pick up a car magazine that has the ET's of all the cars they've tested on the back pages, or go to a website that lists ET's of late model production cars, and checkout stock marauders as compared to Camaros and Mustangs, both V8 and 6 cylinder. You'll find that the 15 second Marauder isn't all that quick. it isn't what i would call slow for a street cruiser, but it oisn't all that impressive.15 secons is rather common for street vehicles. In fact, there aren't that many 17 second ones, and there are probably as many 15 second ones as there are 16 second ones. So all in all, 15 seconds is "so-so".
