Well Dennis has my car as most of ya'll know well this is what has happened to it so far.I thought since this is going to be a buildup with pics on #18 it should have it's own thread...Thank you Dennis for your knowleadge and expertise ..

Post(1)

Here is the first of the pictures on Marks car, Arthur took the motor and transmission out today, we will put his old engine on a engine stand next to the new short block, we will transfer all the bolt ons to the new block ac ps motor mounts etc. I am having his Valve covers powder coated along with the front cover, I will have the heads checked I will show how these engines are set up and install the heads and timing chains, so this will be a nice tech article on a short block upgrade.

Post(2)

Well, here is the start of the buildup for Marks Car, as you can see below we removed his old engine, installed it on an engine stand. Here is some back ground on Marks car, he brought the car here for an install he drove the car for over seven months both on the street as well as the track the car ran perfect, then for what ever reason, the car overheated badly on two separate occasions, the last time he lost a head gasket, he took the car in and had both head gaskets replaced.

When Mark was working with the dealer they suggested he trade cars to a DTR, with the investment he already had, he stayed in the car, the day after picking the car up he went to the drag strip and the car developed a miss, he took the car back to the dealer and they replaced a plug, the next day he lost the motor on the way home.

Mark bought his kit form me and had the car tuned here eight months prior to the engine blowing up, the damage to his old engine is the worst I have ever seen, I honestly feel car ran extremely lean and hot, four pistons were damaged on one side and two on the other, he also broke two rods. Now this was not a tuning issue, if the tune was off this much he would have blown the car up way before he did, so either the heads were issue or while the car was there he lost the flash on the ECM, I have no idea till I get the new motor in the car, I can try and verify the tune in the EEC, I will also send the Mezirie pump to be checked as well as the Cobra fuel pumps, regardless he will have a monster when he is done, and I know he appreciates all that the club has done for him as well as I do.

http://web.iwebcenters.com/reinhartautomotive/images/session/00-00-1118426560-rearengine.jpg

We received Marks new crate motor from Ron at fox lake, we unwrapped it and checked it over, as usual its immaculate.

http://web.iwebcenters.com/reinhartautomotive/images/session/00-00-1118426985-cratemotor.jpg

Now on these new Aluminum block they are completely bare so you have to take the dowels out of the rear of the motor for the rear oil seal cap and the centering dowels for the transmission as well as the two dowels for the front timing cover. You can see the eight bolt steel crank here.

http://web.iwebcenters.com/reinhartautomotive/images/session/00-00-1118427191-eightblotcranknoseal.jpg

So we installed those dowels and the new rear oil seal and cover you use RTV to seal this to the rear block.

http://web.iwebcenters.com/reinhartautomotive/images/session/00-00-1118427442-rear%20main%20installed.JPG

Once we have the engine on the stand we looked it over and took some shots of the Diamond racing pistons manly rods and ARP rod bolts.

http://web.iwebcenters.com/reinhartautomotive/images/session/00-00-1118427968-arp%20rod%20bollts.JPG

Ford Motorsport oil pumps are on Back order so we can not install the oil pump with the billet oil pump gears or timing chain assemblies, but we can bolt The heads on with the new ARP head studs after the heads come back from Dover cylinder head, we are having a good valve job and have them check every thing.

http://web.iwebcenters.com/reinhartautomotive/images/session/00-00-1118428195-passengerhead.jpg

Then I will show step by step how the pump and billet gears are installed along with the timing chain and guides.

Awesome, Mark, outstanding build! I love what Fox Lake has done for you. Thank you too, Dennis, for being his wrench on this project.

Thanks again, for the explanation of why/how your stock block failed, those pics of the OEM piston tops tell the whole detonation story. Every one of the pistons I could see from here, were damaged, coming apart at the crown. When you can see the top ring, it's over.

It occurs to me that maybe someone messed with your tune? Did the dealership reflash your EEC? Sorry, I don't mean to armchair quarterback, here, I'm sure you and Dennis know what went south. But, IMHO, that kind of piston damage would not come from any SCT tune no matter how aggressive. That's more like the damage that would follow a dealership's messing around with your EEC program, or, you accidently bought a tankful of 87 octane without knowing it. Okay, no more speculation, but thanks for the peek.

Nonetheless, I love your new Diamond pistons, looks like about a 10cc dish there, so, I have to ask...What do you estimate your final compression to dial in at? I can't tell you how much fun I've been having with my 9:1 compression, once I got it all tuned right. 12.66 on street tires and street tune, and with 200#s of crap in the trunk. You have some great days (and times) ahead, Mark, congrats!

You are going to have one rocking Marauder when she's all back together, Mark. You won't be doing burnouts, more like "fly-bys." Congrats, please keep us up to date?

Yes it does seem that when i had my heads done and was picking up the car after having the head gaskets done that they(will insert name soon) were persistant in trying to put me in a new dtr and telling me that i should take it easy since my car is supercharged "a stock block can only take so much" is what the service manager told me..as soon i we get back the reading that were on my ecc and it says that they reflashed it back to stock then i will decide what course of action..Since day one of my purchase of this car i have NEVER put anything less than 94 octane in her , well maybe 93 but that was because they didn't have 94 and allways sunoco..
12.66? i don't know i was hitten 12.1 i'm hoping for 11's
Again Thank you everyone!!

No one will know the truth,I will tell you my horrer story later, Mark knows some of it,every time I turn my car over to some one for work I think they just can't stop and go out for a joy ride because these cars are too cool when done up, I have had a blown trans and a blown ring and pinion and is one reason I had DR set my WOT RPM to 5000 max, Since I don't drag race I don't need the extra RPM. Looking good Dennis....

I got me a good look at another MM engine (Marauderman) being built from the bottom-up this past week.

Looks just like the one you are doing for Mark....I haven't seen a lot of details on Mark's new motor (may have just missed the details in all of the posts here), so I can't say much for it, but the one that Marauderman is having done is going to be a STRONG one. Hope Mark is getting the same "treatment" that Marauderman is getting! He can't wait to hear it crank up, and I bet Mark can't wait for his either.

Seems we found us a really good shop locally here, for those of us that can't make the trip to FL.

Good luck to you Mark! Make sure you guys keep the updates coming!

Dennis,

Is this a stroker motor, if not why? Also, what would a motor like the one you are building produce if stroked, n/a, with high streetable compression, maybe 10.5 to one. What would it cost.

I really enjoy reading everything you submit but this motor thread is the best, most informative ever!

Thanks

ThanksIf you want to make a lot of safe RWHP I never install 10/1 pistons on a super charged motor because you will have to either rape the timing, or run a lower boost level or nothing but race gas, so normally you drop the compression to 8 1/2 or 9 to one then what you do is turn the boost up to compensate for the loss of RWHP do to the compresion loss look at the 03 Cobra motor, now I am not a big fan of stoker motors or big cams, yes you you can make a lot of power with cams but the idle quality and driveabliaty suffer, so I stay with a bullit proof short block fully ported and pollished heads, and a mild set of cams and then turn the Boost up, I did a 03 Cobra motor in a Marauder it made 567 RWHP on 93 octane, so here are the pictures I took this morning and Marks love has a new Heart.

With the setup that is now on the car, what do you think the peak horsepower potential is? And what do you think the max "safe" horsepower will come in at? Will it be a nice smooth and wide torque curve?
