I found this while searching for info on our transmission.
Complete video of disassembly and assembly, plus pictures of parts. I would recommend downloading and saving in your hard drive. A lot of companies charge money for videos like these.....enjoy.

I originally posted this a long time ago and original link is gone, courtesy of Magindat and the Sunshine State Marauders the above are current links to downloads of the 3 video files. I hope that these videos remain as useful today as they were 3 years ago. Javier.

Is that in the 03 or 04 or both? Great find by the way, thanks. Is the 4R70W that the '03 models have. The '04 has a 4R75W.

There are differences, but overall those 3 videos contain a wealth of valuable information that applies to more than one specific transmission. It can answer a lot of questions that our members have posed from time to time.

It can make even a novice well informed and have an understanding of what is inside that "mysterious" box right after the engine and before the drive shaft.:)

Thanks, now we know what the tailshaft is and how it is lubricated, separator plate, accumulator springs, O/D band. mechanical diode shaft, c-clip that likes to come off. It puts a face on some of these components.

The '04 has a 4R75W.

NOT all 2004 Marauders have the 4R75W.
You have to check the Door Label.

Code H or U is a 4R70W.
Only Code R is a 4R75W.

It seems there is a bit of overlap between model years in a lot of different areas. Here is a bit of information on the differences between the 4R70W and 4R75W.

Source Blue Oval Forum:

4R75W is an updated 4R70W.
4 is the number of forward gears.
R is Rear drive
75 is the torque capacity of the trans without the zero. Thus 750 ft lb on the input shaft.
W is for Wide ratio.
4R70W is one of the more reliable auto's, so the '75' should be also.

Source Ford.com:

The 2004 Marauder also gets a new 4R75W heavy-duty, four-speed automatic transmission for greater efficiency and low-end torque. Other refinements include the addition of needle bearings and Teflon seals to a new 11.25-inch high-stall-speed torque converter with a one-inch one-way clutch. The new transmission provides quicker upshifts and downshifts, and lets the driver “kick down” into first gear at a higher speed.

This is the most complete explanation I have been able to find in regards to the differences.:)

Great video, although I don't ever remember one coming apart that easily. The magic of television. Thanks Smokie! It's not magic, or trick photography. The 4R70W's break down and reassembly is rather simple and straightforward.

They're pretty simple, but I've never had a front pump come off with a slide hammer, always had to use a puller.

The video I downloaded is awfull. The dialogue is legible, but the video for the most part is difficult to see.

What's the trick to getting a better visual?

You guys got to learn the web surfing tricks...

I shortened the link Smokie posted.

Go to http://www.mn12performance.com/mn12-techinfo/trans-tech/

Found the files. Right click and save to your harddrive. Then rename the file with only ".wmv" at the end of it.

You can also open the .htm or .html files in Internet Explorer and do save as into a directory, and it should save the web page and all .jpg/.gif in a directory to go along with the web page.

Get 'em while you can! :)

There is no difference in feel between the 2.
The only change beside the slightly tighter torque converter is a minute change of the internal gear ratios and the number of holes in the Output Shaft Sensor.

Now with my new 'puter I watched the video, Very enlightening. The infamous C-clip, just which one was it? Or is it only on a 4R75W and not shown on the video.

I saw the instructor check solenoids, but I didn't pick up on a "diode Pack"? Some posts mentioned it, where or what is it?

The OD band was kinda small huh?

zack the reverse sun shell is riveted in the 4r75w. it is welded in the 4r70w and they are prone to cracking. just a little bit of info.....there are a few other minor upgrades but nothing major.......

Where on the door jam do you look for the R or U designation? Is it in the VIN# itself? I found an 03 with LOW LOW miles but was wondering if I should hold out for an 04...any thoughts.
