View Full Version : Choosing a tuner

I want to chose a tuner to sell me the SCT Xcal2 with his custom programs. I want to support the tuners that support our forum but am not sure which tuner to go with, Reinhert or Lidio who seem to be the ones chosen most frequently. So as not to start any flame wars, I'd appreciate it if some of you familiar with both tuners woudl PM me with your opinions on which one you would recommend most. My car is currently bone stock and will have the basic mods very shortly (CAI, pulleys, reflash, gears) but will probably never be supercharged. (famous last words). Anyone want to give me some opinions? Thanks, :)

I have the same question myself!
Except I plan on stopping at gears. No pullies or CAI.

I have both programs on my SCT, and have run both programs in my car. But to avoid a war please PM me for my opinions

You have a PM.

Aw man. Post it up for all to see!
Unless your feelings are purely subjective, how can anyone start a flame war?

To keep flames to a minimum, it boils down to which tuner is closer to you! Both Dennis and Lidio have great expertise with the SCT software and tuning the MM. I am sure that each has his following and their fans. Suffice it to say that you can't go wrong with either. Todd and/or Marty, please chime in about the tuner at Team Ford. I know that both of you have had great experiences with him. Also in the Chicago Area Mac has had a great tune from a local dealer. All of the aforementioned people will leave you satisified with their professionalism and the quality of their tunes, so pick one and go for it!!!

I have a Lidio tune. I am very happy with what it did to my car. I can't say that it is better than anyone else's tune. I would have to purchase each to make that decision. I would say however, that you should go with what sounds right. Lidio seemed to say all the right things.

All that matters to me is that my car now performs much better than it did without the tune. I'm happier now than I was the first day I drove my MM off the lot. To me it was a worth while investment.

I have a "Dennis...Pseudo Lidio...David (SCT)...Mike (SCT)" tune that acts much like Lidio's in that the TC doesn't lockup except in 4th gear!!! I had the 60+ MPH lockup tune but opted for a 50 MPH lockup and really like it better!! :bows:

I still have the 2nd gear WOT "BOG" or whatever you call it!!! If I downshift from 3rd or 4th to 2nd at WOT....it seems to accelerate good but backing off the throttle slightly IT ZOOMS!!! Almost like a shot of nitrous??

Nobody can come up with an explanation why the car accelerates perfectly from a standing start with no added "ZOOM" if I back off the throttle a bit.....but make a downshift and it is there.....TC trying to lockup?? Beats me but I guess the only way to get around it is to "SUPERCHARGE"!!??

I don't think that you can go wrong with either Dennis or Lidio's tune. But I would point out that Dennis will send you any updates via email and allow you to upload them to the flasher yourself. This is very convenient as it saves you from having to send the flasher back. Plus with the .xtr file you can use SCT's quicktune software to make some changes yourself. I have used quicktune and it works great.

If you have a DR tune just get the .xtr file from him and adjust the WOT TQ conv lockup point for 2nd gear. I also had the 2nd gear "bog" and even though the car performed well with it(the times in my sig are with the bog), I still tweeked it out. I moved the lockup point up from basically right after the 2nd gear shift point to almost 70 mph. Now it still locks up but it does it once the engine is making good power. If you move the lockup up to where the engine is in its powerband you can't even feel it lock up. I know Lidio keeps the tq converter unlocked through all the gears at WOT. So that is another option...

I have had both. I first purchased an SCT9100 w/ DR's tune. My car ran great. I have since installed the Trilogy kit that comes with a chip programed by Lidio. Again, the car runs great. I will be attending MVIII and plan on getting the car dyno tuned by Lidio.
