I recently had a remote starter put on my MM and since then Ive had some minor problems, sometimes Not starting, crazy locking doors, etc. but one thing that ALWAYS happens is at nite no mater what position the switch is in the headlights come on after about 30 sec. I was wondering if maybe all the MM do that as a saftey issue or somthing but even in the PARK LITES and OFF position the headlights stay on. I called the dealer but they know NOTHING ABOUT MM's. they only sold one and im the luck winner. Does this sound normal to any of you or am i NOT CRAZY?:help:

First question that comes to mind, is who installed the remote starter? It is "NOT" normal for the headlights to be on constantly at night, unless you have the switch in the "AUTO ON" postion, or the manual on position. If I leave my switch in the auto on position and start the car via the remote at night, then the lights come on as is I started the car with the key. During daylight, light above the sensor setting, my parking lights come on regardless of postion via remote start, but go out as soon as I turn the ignition to the run position. It sounds as though someone wired the remote incorrectly. You don't have Canadian model do you? They came equiped with the DRL module!

DLorean: I am with Murader on this one. Do you have the Ford remote start (I do and the way I know is because the remotes are almost identical and the paper work says so). My remote works like Murader's. Have the dealer re-check the install if it was a dealer installed item. Otherwise go back to the installer.
By the way, everyone who is anyone is coming to the NY Meet on March 15 in East Meadow, NY. You should come. Check out this thread: http://www.mercurymarauder.net/forums/showthread.php?s=&threadid=1229 and let me know ASAP whether you can make it so that I can be sure there are enough "Hooters" for everyone!

The dealer told me ford doesnt make remote starters ( i was hoping to have it tuned to my original remote) so they sent it out to an aftermarket place to have it done. first off i had to disconnect the hood kill because that was preventing it from starting altogether. when i start it remotely or with the key the headlights will come on after about 30 seconds in the OFF or PARK position when its dark. im going to stop by the dealer today and get it straigtned out. and i still never recived word on my LEATHER JACKET:(

before my marauder i had a 95 vic with remote start. it was a viper 550 and i had not a single problem the whole time i had it. it was installed by circuit city and they did a decent job. i once tried to install a remote start on my friends car and those things are such a headache and it is so easy to screw up the whole installation......go get your money back--you shouldnt pay for something that doesnt work right,, and hopefully they didnt srew anything else up

You really have to wonder about some of these dealers. As k them for a copy of the Ford accessories brochure, then show them the Ford remote starter in it.

Your dealer is clueless. When I see you on the 15th, I will show you my Ford manufactured/dealer installed remote starter, which works great.

the headlight switch has been known to be faulty in earlier models Crown Vic. It may "run hot" as well esp w/ dash lights dimmed. I have seen this flaw in switch itself & has nothing to do w/ remote start or anything else. Runs down battery in extreme cases. Get switch replaced. It will check out OK but in use will act up.

DLoreanMARAUDER: now you know that Ford does make the remote, I showed you mine on the 15th. Tell the Ford dealer you want the correct one installed. I have no issues with mine so far. I also had the same type installed on the F-150 I traded in...
Good Luck

thanks guys for all your help I sent it to the dealer and they were totaly clueless. I asked about the ford starter and they looked at me like i was crazy. nobody knew what i was talking about, and when i asked about the jacket thier response was "you get a jacket with the car?". I took my car to the next closest dealer which was an hour away. i should get it back tuesday and ill let you know how it goes.
i think ford/mercury should retrain some of these dealers

ANSWER, if your wipers are on then the headlights automatically come on in 30 seconds. check the wiper position as it still operates in the delayed setting too. it is possible that the installer crossed or taped into the wrong wire.

Got my car back today, but they didnt install the Ford system they just fixed the existing one free of charge. I asked why they didnt put in the ford system like i asked and they said they would have to charge me to unistall the old one and reinstall the new one plus labor. I was a little upset but atleast its fixed, and when I got home there was a black box on my front steps IT WAS MY JACKET :)!!! so all in all im happy, atleast the problem is gone and everything works the way it should (Plus i finaly get to sport the jacket :). BTW it was a crossed wire in the headlamp switch and the wiper system.

It starts the car by remote (like locking and unlocking), so you can warm it up before you get to your car. you still need the key to drive it, but you can set the heat or a/c ahead of time and then from in your house or somthing start your car by pushing a button on the remote (after you get out of the shower or somting) and by the time you get outside and into your car, it should be warmed up/cooled down already waiting for you. then you just put in the key, turn it to RUN and off to work (school). its a neat feature but its somthing you CAN live without.

Thanks DL Maurader--SO.....Hummmmm...not sure I need to go that far just yet ... there are things first that definitely must come first though--which I'm working on even though it ( My MM) is not capabile of running at the moment--but there are "plans" for her future...if all goes well with the insurance ending situation on her repairs..we'll see.. but again --thanks---it seem syour "remote" is best serving those in the colder aras of the country to me...but I need to think more about it be any real conclusions.....seems like a neat toy though...will keep it in mind...
