For those of you that tow boats, etc with your MMs, did you install an auxilliary tranny cooler? And, if so, did you remove the factory cooler which is sandwiched between the A/C condenser and the radiator? Thanks. :coolman:

Kenny Brown added a second cooler mounted in the left front wheel well, behind the fog lamp. Ford Racing part number M-7095-SR. This is a "stacked plate" design, 7.25" X 11", and it's a kit with hose, clamps, brass adapters, etc. Full GVW rating of 18,000 lbs. Page 121 of the '05 catalogue, 49.95 plus tax and shipping.

Got pics on the set up behind the fog lamp? I have one of these on the way and on looking for options.
The factory cooler is adequate for towing a boat, in my opinion.

Thanks Mac. I got the picture now. I was thinking about hooking a fan to it for those real heavy work outs.

Yes I am sure it is. During normal driving, my temps stay around 160* with this cold air. Lean on the car just a little and we are at 180*. Treat the lady like a whore and I can see temps at or over 200* real quick.
My desicion was final when I saw this:

Scroll down to "Should I put on an additional Trans cooler"
That link is nothing new around here. I found it in one of the other threads.
The most important thing to remember is that our cooler is seperate from the radiator, making it much more efficient.

Zack and I tried the fan trick over the summer of '03, we also tried fans on the heat exchanger. They worked great at the track for a faster cool down between passes, but in long term high speed driving, they work against you. They turn at one speed, and even at maximum speed, they block more air flow than they provide. On long trips, you actually see higher temps from less circulation. Once they started burning out, we didn't replace them I used the Deraile fans, and they didn't last a whole year.

I don't do any towing but since I have a higher stall tq I added a stacked plate design tranny cooler. Mine is a Hayden and I just stuck it on with the included fasteners to the front of the radiator on the passenger side. Water temp is not affected (I have a digital water temp gauge) and the tranny cooling is so effective that I have a cover over 3/4 of the Hayden in winter to keep the tranny temps up in the 170 degree range. In the summer I uncover the whole thing and tranny temps above 185 are a thing of the past.:bandit:

Also in the winter you want the cooler to be in line of the radiator so it can reach norm op temp a lil faster than if it were independant. I have one on the 6 and noticed the shifts weren't falling off. I have a infared thermo and will post heat temps one of these days. the cooler is the verry bottom of the rad correct?

the cooler is the verry bottom of the rad correct? If you mean internal to the radiator, no. It's a rather large cooler sandwiched between the radiator and the A/C condenser
