I was reading up on this thing Pioneer has and wish I could get it for the cool factor.
First you buy this and it goes where your radio is. It is a touch screen navigation/CD player/FM stereo:
http://www.pioneerelectronics.com/pio/pe/images/portal/cit_3442/218219118AVIC-D1_big.jpg
Then you buy a add-on module for a vehicle dynamics display that allows the screen above to display various things such as what you see below:
http://www.pioneerelectronics.com/pio/pe/images/portal/cit_3430/89180340Vehicle%20Dynamics%20N ight.jpg
The website doesn't say much at all about it but the product book I picked up yesterday says it works simular to the dash mounted G tech things. It can see speed, horsepower, voltage, direction, slope, and the list goes on. All on the touch screen display. Just day dreaming about all that right where my radio is makes me want to go get it.

It's pretty cool, but it's a real bad idea for me to drive with my reading glasses on. :)

In the future once I get S/C'd, I'll be daydreaming about getting one of those, or something close to that style. Ofcourse that will be over a year till I get it.

I just happened to stop by my local Sound Advise this afternoon and looked at this very unit. Problem is they tell me that it's a "double DIN" size and the opening for our radios is only "1 1/2 DIN". They told me it wouldn't fit. However, Pioneer does make a DIN size unit that does the same things and is only single DIN size. The screen retracts into the unit when not in use and comes out automatically to watch DVDs or use the GPS. Both units list for $2000. Pricey but neat.

it will fit just needs a bit of dremel trimming in the dash where you would never notice once its installed. Guys here have had it done and it looks great and the shop i went to showed pictures of ford products (din and a half) that have had double din units installed. The motorized screen needs to be tilted down because of the way the dash overshadows the radio hole making it unuseable.

That is a very sharp looking unit, and having XM navtraffic would be very cool.
Contrary to what most fitiment guides say, a double DIN will fit in the Marauder.

I have looked at the Pioneer AVIC-D1 for quite some time since it would look VERY sharp inside the Marauder with the black scheme, flush with the dash, and won't have to worry about an LCD display popping up and hitting the lip in the dash. I'm reading mixed statements though about the fitment of a double-din sized unit. Some are saying just a little "modification" to the din hole will allow fitment, others are saying there's no problem at all. If I were to get a double-din unit, what would happen if I tried fitting it in there?

You will have to do some modifications, the deck will not fit through the hole in the dash panel. I had to trim away some of the plastic at the top of the hole. At least that's what happened with my Kenwood. See my thread called "My latest project" or check out my gallery for more pics.

The D1 is just the N1/N2 in a double din package...
I mounted my Avic N1 where the A/C Heater controls are and moved the AC controls up to where the stock radio normally is, and used a traditional ford din adapter to mount the ac controls in the radio location.
The net result is the screen comes straight out, misses the top of the shifter by just a hair or two and pops up into the perfect viewing position, without restriction on viewing angle.
Incidentaly, now that I'm scooting around in a CTS-V Daily, my Avic N1 w/12 cd changer and XM Tuner is just sitting there collecting dust...
$500 for the lot. It is used, but it's all in perfect working order, with all the "stuff".

You can save a few bucks on e-bay, they are going for about 1500 bucks right now.

I got mine last year from Music In Motion, and it's been worth every penny in fun. Excellent DVD playback, the absolute best in GPS, and I've used Garmin and Magellan systems in the past. The vehicle dynamics are not as thrilling as a full boat G-Tech, but it is fun to play with. Take a peek?

The large gauge in the center is a GPS driven speedo, and it's very accurate, I've checked it against LE radar and lidar. The speedo gauge is odd, it's focused on speeds under 50 MPH more than than over, but there is a digital readout at the bottom of the gauge. The speedo is fixed, cannot be changed, but the two smaller gauges on it's left and right can be changed by touch screen and you can manipulate them any way you want. Voltage, forward acceleration, slope, angle velocity and more. This stuff is important to the drifters, and it's fun to play with. BTW, with a volt meteter up here, I can pull my OEM volt meter and use the vacancy for another important gauge, like tranny temp.
I can't say much about the double DIN issue, my unit surely will not fit in the Marauder dash without a custom bracket provided by Music in Motion. We even tried the Crutchfield kits, and they just didn't look right. So, this is a custom install for sure, but worth the time and effort. Not one person yet has made a negative comment on the fit, finish or workmanship. But, now that I've said that here, I'm sure someone will speak up.
Anyway, here's more pics of the DIN issue, hope this helps.

Ummm...BTW, pics were taken last summer, just after the install, I had yet to pull the Garmin stuff out.

If you are going to buy a D1 here are a few things you need to consider first....If you do get it installed, the custom work and the price of the unit will equal the price of the Pioneer N1/N2. Heres another piece of info that might be a deciding factor...The N1/N2 will play DVD movies while the D1 will not. The D1 has a DVD-ROM only drive strictly for the DVD navigation discs. I was going to trade my N1 for one until that factor alone shot that idea down. (pointless with 2 headrest monitors) Nav traffic is crap right now. Only MAJOR metropolitan cities are covered. I live in West Palm Beach and it doesnt even cover that, only Miami/Ft. Laud area. So basically the N2 is nothing more than an N1 except for a few different graphics and the Nav Traffic. Also the N2 is compatible with Sirius and Xm while the N1 only does Xm. The vehicle dynamics display (speedo, g-meter, volts, ect.,) all come on the N1/N2. In my own opinion from my experience, go with the N1. It installs easily, looks nice, PLAYS DVD MOVIES, and you can find them on E-bay for @ 1000.00. The nice thing is Pioneer sends you updated Navigation discs in the mail every year. You just register your product for free on pioneer.com.
Hope this was useful info to you all...

Mine is already installed. Nice fit. Does not require trimming of the dash. Looks much nicer than the N-1 or N-2 motorized screen. P.M. me I can give you details of installation. The XM Navtraffic is a nice add on for major metro areas. You will see at MVIII.
