Ok, so I had the day off and some time to kill. The exterior of my Blue MM is looking pretty good so I decide that it is time for a little attention under the hood. :D

To be honest ... at the CAM monthly meets I am a little embarrassed when the other folks open their hoods and the engine/components looked like they were cleaned and installed that morning. :o Of course, there is nothing really special about my engine compartment .... no S/C, no pulleys, no electric water pump, no K&N air filter ...... no official Ford blue wiring harness protectors.

Anyway ... despite my lack of interesting mechanical additions and modifications, I thought it was a good time to give the powerplant a good once over cleaning and prep session. :D

Anyway, I was "caught in the act" by my wife .... who says that "I am obsessed with this car". Guess I am gonna have to sneak around from now on so I don't get caught. It's not really cheating is it??

My wife thought I was obsessed untill she met some of the other Marauder owners. :D Turns out that my Marauderitis is a relatively mild case.

My wife thinks I'm obsessed also.... until I told her "at least I'm obsessed with a car... it could be a girlfriend".... :D

I'm curious as to what's the best way to clean up the engine compartment so that in the future, I might also avoid embarressment? :D
I've heard:
-soaking it down with Simple Green and gently hosing it off
-steam cleaning
-etc.

I've been accused of the obsession... first it was my computers -- so I can't go into my office and sit down and use them. (They are turned off) Then it was my cameras - I can't go shoot pics unless it's an officially sanctioned Family event. She started on the car about 2 months ago. She actually asked me if I'd consider trading it in.

She complains that I wash my MM too often. (once a week) http://www.mercurymarauder.com/forums/images/smilies/Angry_Pissed_Off_Emoticon.gifI skipped this weekend, and got a really sarcastic "Aren't you going to wash your car?" I said "Nope. Don't want to make you mad." Then went off to wash clothes. I have actually gone down to the car wash at 1am, and felt like I was sneaking around on her!!!

:argue: I guess if you have one of these cars "obsession" comes with the package. After all you are already "car crazy", you know your cars and keeping it clean is a necessity. I have a trunk full of cleaning supplies and more in the garage. I have to wash it at least once a week, sometimes as often as three times...just to knock the dust off!

Not until you get caught. I could introduce you to the decoy method. This is how it works. I will call next week and propose a get together. At the house Pam suggests shopping at Potomac Mills or getting the nails done. Once the fishhook has landed we zip out to an empty parking lot and detail our cars. We make an occasional phone call to keep them in our radar. After both cars are complete we pick-up food for dinner and have the plates ready before they return. How am I doing?

No way, Charlie; you don't have to sneak around to do stuff that's important to you. Tell that woman to get back into the kitchen, where she belongs.

I typically obsess initially about anything new I get anyhow. I want to be educated about what I own, so I spend tiem on the web reading up on various things. I did the same when I bought the wife her little red convertible. Since I took her to the car wash with me once, she realized what a pleasant experience it is and has taken her car several times.

Yeah, the decoy method might work. Of course, she'll notice how clean the car is then I'm busted.

Well I corrected my little "bird" problem yesterday !! I pruned the bradford pear back ALOT. I now have several birds looking for a new hangout and the car is clean this morning without those tell-tale bird droppings for the 1st time is several weeks. :D You're right, Mike --- I hate to see my Blue MM the least bit dirty. ;)

BTW -- How 'bout them O's last night. A walk off homerun in the bottom of the 10th inning sent the Yankees packing. Gotta love those wins !!! :2thumbs:

After the sad performance, Monday night, I'm sure a few folks got a well deserved a$$ chewing ...properly administered, it can do wonders.
