View Full Version : Got my Pro-Guard

Started the installation and discovered that I would have to modify it due to another modification I have done. I added a center support for my bumper and had to notch the Pro-Guard to fit around it. If I had thought about it before-hand, I could have simply attached the center of the bumper toi the Pro-Guard. Didn't finish the install due to a rain shower, but overall it looks pretty good. It does need another modification, the rear mounting holes are not lining up properly so I'll have to drill them out and it seems off-center because the gap is not the same on both sides between it and the exhaust tips. I'll probably take it back off and trim one side about 1/2" so they are even. It may be that there are some alignment differences from one car to another and it could fit other cars perfectly.
No pics yet, maybe tomorrow.

Thanks, please keep us posted. I haven't received mine yet, don't know what to expect in fit and finish.

Got it installed. The driver side had about 1-1/4" gap between the edge of the guard and the tailpipe. The passenger side was touching. A quick trim and it's symmetrical. The holes had to be re-drilled for the bumper brackets to line up. I'll post pics later.
If you have a trailer hitch mounted to the frame, you'll have to trim both sides.
The trade name for it is Pro-Gard.
The cardboard package it comes in is really handy for laying on while you're under the car installing it.

Ok, here is how I modified mine.

The rear mounting holes didn't line up so I drilled more. Notice that they are not misaligned the same on each side. Maybe something isn't straight about my car?

Here is where I measured the clearance between the cover and pipe.

And here is what it looks like on the other side after being trimmed. This side was touching the pipe before being modified. I need to smooth it out a little more, should be no problem with a rasp file when I get back home. Also notice the melted spots on the bumper cover. I believe those were caused from improperly being strapped to a dyno where the straps forced the exhaust up against the bumper cover. Happened a long time ago, before I knew about the highly skilled guys that do my dyno tuning these days.

Finally, here is where I made a repair to a small rip at my special center mounting bracket. My fault, I backed into something and it ripped the cover where my bracket was attached. So I had to add a longer bracket and extra screws. Lots cheaper than a bumper cover! You can see the front mounting holes where the cover mounts to the trunk in this pic.

That's a lot of modifying for something that is supposed to bolt-on. WECSOG at its best...

As we all know, it is a part originally made for the CV. The CV does not have the same exhaust tips so there is apparently a positioning difference. If you're not picky about even spacing from side to side on a part that is mounted underneath the car, the only mod that may be required is the relocated holes. And even that may be just an issue with my particular car.

These were a direct bolt on two cars here no dodifications needed, Brian has modified exhaust that may be the issue, but it was a simple fix. Thanks for posting this Brian

I reckon mine has some alignment issues with the exhaust and rear bumper cover. So take my example as a worst case scenario.
Bottom line, it's a good mod even if it isn't a direct fit on ALL cars!
