there isn't anything anyone could ever say about the quality of Zack's work. Plain and simple, he treats every project like it's going on his own car.

....and this response has nothing to do with the individual consumer.

Zack took so much crap from the haters back in the day, he quit making them. He made many different kinds, and some rubbed certain folks the wring way. Sad too, because they are really nice. Alot of time and pride goes into them.

They are now a rare commodity, and requests for them are much like a lottery or wait list.

Price? Priceless.

Good luck, and prepare to beg!:P ;)

Those badgeless grills are indeed da bomb!

How do we order one up Zack? PM you?

Zack
06-29-2005, 07:13 PM
The chromed badgeless grills are a limited production item, I need at least 3 orders at a time to make the paint work cost effective. I think Chrome Marquis grills cost around $90 bucks, red as well. Black, Blue and Silver cost $130 (from Ray Sr. TheDealer 1-800-216-6411)

I can make any solid color grill anytime for $125 (Labor and Shipping)
Save some money and take the grill off your car so you dont have to buy 2.
The turn around time is less than a week, PM me to get the ball rolling..

Thanks,
Zack

What are your guys thoughts on Zack's grill for a black MM? Black or Chrome? The chrome looks good on Dennis' blue car, but I thought it might be too much contrast on a black car. (?) Thanks for your thoughts.

Here's a not so great view of a Zack grill in black. It's every bit of the quality you should expect from Zack.

What I think would be really wild, is the chrome edition like Dennis and BigJoeP have, but Zack's crystal treatment added on. Now that would be hot.

You know the chrome is beautiful, and I don't blame you at all for liking it, but there's just something about the plain black grill that really appeals to me! Plus the chrome one looks like it's grinning at me! :)

Just have to get one ordered from Ray I guess, and figure out how to get mine off and sent to Zack. Can't really afford two right now, so will have to do without my current one for a while. Will lose the OEM look, but that's no great loss!

BTW, if you ordered the chrome, it would be _two_ needed at $90 each right? They come badged as well?

Thanks again.

I am a stark minority here. I like the look as is, badge and all. I am not knocking the workmanship, it is spot on, but the Merc emblem in the front is just enough shine to break up all that black. The all chrome grill is a little much, but this is one man's opinion.

I used to think way back before I even bought my MM ..... that I was gonna have to go badgeless once the day came. Over the past few months tho ... I've changed my mind.

The fact that any day now ... those quality metal godshead replacements will finally be available .....

Certainly played a part in my change of heart.

I like the "mesh" look of it-looks "high-dollar". Don't get me wrong-I think the badgeless grilles look great, and though I've never met Zack, people here in Florida rave about the quality of his work. They're just not for me.

Bruteforce-I understand the stealth thing, also. My thing is I want people to know it's a Mercury.

The all chrome grill is a little much, but this is one man's opinion. You know, I thought the same thing about the chrome. In the 70's all the grills went to junk plastic, and lately everything is base metal or just a single tone look. But the other day I pulled in next to a 1949 black Mercury 8 that had been fully restored. Red leather seats, and midnight black paint that was so deep you thought you could put your hand through it. The grill was a huge curved chrome monster, that I would bet weighed at _least_ 50 pounds. The contrast with the black paint was stunning. As an aside, it looked kind of cool to see the two cars side by side. The old and the new.

I was going to go with the black just to save $, and because I liked the stealth look very much, but am checking with Zack now to see if he has 3 orders yet which is what he needs to do the work. With the chrome SS inserts on the back, and the wheels, it would look very nice.

If he has no other takers then I'll take off my grill and send it to him and save a few bucks and go with the black, but at this point I'm hoping to get the chrome.

Thanks,

Norm

I wish you guys would stop sticking pics of my MM up here without telling me!

Just kidding...

These pics were taken at out MM meet in Barry's back yard, in fact, the background is US 42 where we had a real ball! The grill was installed on my MM after BigJoeP shot his ceramic cat liner "fast ball" at me OTR, and destroyed my original Zack badgless grill. Thanks to Zack, I didn't show up for the meet with a toothless grin.

Here's another grill I made a few months ago. I made it quick and sloppy, just a prototype. But it actually turned out good. Its a parabloic light diffuser for drop ceiling light fixtures.

http://www.mercurymarauder.net/gallery/data/528/medium/DSC_0849.JPG It was a quick fix, not a perfect build. The mounting tabs needed some access from in front of the grill, therefore, you can see the uneven open spaces across the bottom row. Given more time on this design, I am sure it would be "Zackperfect."
