Looks like the 2003 300A had the underhood light and my 300B doesn't. Can the light be added to the 300B and has anyone done it?

Yes. There are quite a few people that have recontented their Marauders.

I got an underhood light from a wrecked CV. I have not hooked it up yet. I dont know if it is really necessary for what I use the car for.

Defyant doesn't really need a light, he knows whats under there and he is damn proud! Besides, what would he need a light for when his garage is so well lit anyways? (avatar)

If I were going to light the underhood I'd look into (Mercury forgive me) the underhood light-on-a-wire setup I used to see on the Chevy pickups. It had a switch and you could grab the thing and pull it out of it's holder and put it almost anywhere underhood.

But I keep a road marker/flashlight in the trunk anyways as part of my roadside emergency kit.

Come out to the Pic-Nic on the 24th of July and see carfixer and his car in person. Plus we might give you a few more mod ideas.

Found this on an unrelated search but feel I can input...

Might consider custom cold cathold flourescent lighting...I did this with a $7.99 12v kit for computers with 2 12" white CCFL tubes...on my Grand Am...

They were much brighter than the stock light in the Marauder. Actually I did it becuase the Grand Am didn't have an underhood light...

Very nice. Do they come on automatically, or did you install a switch somewhere?

I had an external rocker under the hood. Since I didn't always need them I would turn them on when needed/wanted. Used them at the car shows alot at night. ;) I could've easily rigged a pressure switch or even light sensitve switch to do the job, and had my rocker as a bypass to turn them off when working on the car during daylight.

Only thing - I obviously had to extend the wires on the tubes. I made them about 3-4 feet to reach, that's about the limits the little inverter can do, anything longer and it won't be able to drive the tubes.

Gonna put a set in my MM, but probably hide them in the engine bay so at night it'll cause a white backlighting glow to the 32v V8. ;)

I enjoy doing some of these small electrical projects on cars, I think on the MM I may buy a small external fuse block to power them all and connect that directly to the battery - that way I don't hack the existing wiring and can easily remove it without the appearance something was there.
