View Full Version : Air suspensions awfully quiet

Took my MM in 2x for the revised Fuel sending unit fix, and I guess they had it up on the lift both times. Then I loaded up the trunk with about 300 pounds worth of stuff and put two big folks in the back seat and drove 800 miles. The other day, after being back for about a week, I realized that I have not heard the air suspension compressor at all for at least a couple of weeks. Got out and looked at the side of the car, and it seems to be riding much lower in the back than usual.
I have read most of the other threads on the air suspension, and need to know if there is anything I can do on my own or if I have to take it back to the dealer.
My compressor has always been loud as hell, with the noise coming from the engine compartment just under the drivers side fender well. Read somewhere that they are not supposed to be that loud usually.
Anyway, thanks for any information as always.

Check the fuses/relays yet?

Nope, did not. I'll check the fuse box under the hood. Be nice if it was that simple.
Don't know about the relays though, but I guess I can tell if a fuse is bad!
Thanks Dan.

Make sure the switch is turned ON in the trunk.

I was about the say the same, but if the switch is turned off
you get a light on the dash for the AIR SUSP.

I've been wondering if that same light turns on if there's a fault with the system. Does anybody know? Or is it just a reminder light to turn the switch on and nothing else.

First thing I checked, thanks. I just hate taking it to the dealer, but guess I have no choice. They always seem to screw something else up when they have it.

Update: took it to the idiot dealer this morning. I am the first one in, and for once there is no other person in line and no cars dropped off. First he tries to get rid of me because I don't have an appt., but since I am the only one there that excuse doesn't last long, and early bird drop offs are allowed. Then he says that they have a busy day planned and I might need to wait several hours, and I blow that by saying Fine!, and that I will wait in the lounge. When he sees that I am settling in for the duration, then he looks at the car and says that the ride height is "normal", and I essentially say "Bulls*&t". The car is riding so low in the back that there is actually the same or less clearance between the rear tire and the well than there is in front, and I know that isn't correct. Then I tell him that the compressor has not run at all, for at least 2-3 weeks, and he says that is "normal" because the car has "settled in" and decided that this is the "optimum ride height", and the car would never need to raise or lower it's height again, to which I _do_ say "bull&^t." Then he says that if there was a fault with the fuse, OR the relay, OR the air suspension system itself as in a leak, OR the compressor, that the dash light would have come on. Since it has not come on, there is then obviously no problem. At this point I ask to speak to someone else, and tell them that they don't know what they are talking about.
Anyway, I left the car for the day to their tender mercies, and will see what they do about it, if anything. Bunch of freakin' fools, idiots and incompetents. Every time I take it in they manage to screw something else up! :mad2: And then I take it back to have that fixed, and then a fix is needed because of _that_ fix, etc., etc., etc....
