This is not an oil thread. I was dissappointed that 5-20 was not readily available in Arlington VA or Frederick MD. Tried Advanced, and Pep Boys. Found 2 quarts eventually, but it was too hot to keep shopping.

Where can a guy mail-order Mobile 1 5-20? K&N 2010 filters?

Hey, another local Virginia guy. Welcome :welcome: to the MM.Net. Come on out to the next CAM meet and ask your questions in person. :D

I get mine done at the L-M dealer in Fairfax. Some folks have been buying it at Walmart although I personally have never checked for 5-20 Mobil 1 there. :dunno:

PM me for info on where to order K&N MM filters. Got the info from Donny Carlson. For the 5w-20 oil try Auto Zone. I'm able to get the Motorcraft 5w-20 semi-synthetic there. Also try NAPA. I believe you can also use 0w-30 oil.

RookieUnless you're really set on the 5W-20, use 5W-30. The 5W-20 is only used by Ford to improve its CAFE numbers.

Last time I checked at the local Auto Zone they had about 3 or 4 cases worth (Motorcraft 5w-20, semi syn).

Can't find Mobil 1 5W-20?

Try Mobil 1 5W-30, Castrol Syntec 0W-30 (Made in Germany) or any of the Amsoil oils that are much better than 5W-20. 5W-20 is really only found in the US due to CAFE. Ask any driver in Australia, Saudi Arabia, Kuwait, Singapore, Phillipines, Europe if their Ford Modular Motor or OHC engine uses xW-20. They'll look at you weird for even recommending xW-30. Synthetic xW-40/xW-50 is the NORM in almost all countries except the USA. The engines are of the same design. The climates are more or less the same (120F in California deserts, roughly what you see in Saudi/Iraq - but SWA gets as high as 160F).

Just use a full synthetic 5W-30. Ford is trying too hard to play copy cat w/ Toyota and Honda. Even in hotter areas, the Toyotas are using 20W-50 dino, 5W-50 synthetic, or 15W-40 synthetic. For operation in the US in year-round conditions, a 5W-30 synthetic is quite adequate.

To answer your question: Wal-Mart, Autozone, Pep Girls, Murrays, Meijer, BJ Warehouse, Sam's Club, Target, should carry whatever you need.

Metro, I posted this on a another thread that got lost I think. What about the Mobil 1 0-30? I just got a big batch of it on sale.

P.S. Never mind! Thanks. RF Overlord answered me in the other thread.

Mike at Seven Corners Mobile found Mobile 1 5-20, at Fairfax Auto Parts down Rt 7 toward falls church. $5.99 / qt. He said the owner of the gas station has a Marauder as well. I also asked him to change brake fluid, Dot 4, while doing the oil change. I plan to do the work myself, but use Mike at 7 corners when things get busy at work.

Ditto to what metroplex said.

In addition, he mentioned the Castrol Syntec (Made in Germany). Make sure you get the one made in Germany. It will be printed on the bottle. The reason is that the European Synthetics are real synthetics (Group IV or Group V) and not the phoney synthetics (Group III) like the Syntec made in the USA. Most "synthetics" sold in the USA are now "phoney" synthetics - Group III) As for me, I only use Group IV PAO Synthetics (AmsOil except for their 7000 which is Group III, and older Mobil-1 - as newer EP Mobil-1 may be Group III) and/or Group V Ester/DiEster/PolyolEster Synthetics (RedLine)

Whenever I go to France, I always lease a brand new Renault Leguna II, and in the owners manual, it states that I must change the oil "Every 30,000 km". Now, plugging into my handy dandy calculator, 30,000km is equal to 18,750 miles. They recommend "Elf", but "Agip" and "Total" are ok I guess. Is European oil better than American/Canadian oil? YES. I now know why, when I asked a friend with a BMW 316i how much it costs for an oil change, he told me the equivilant of over $130.00 and that was ten years ago.

As for me, I don't, and will not use that "water" that Ford/Honda/etc. says to use. I use only 10W-30 in this Florida heat. If I lived up North where I used to live, I would use 5W-30.

I just use 5w-30 in both the marauder and my van with the 5.4. No issues ever.

Wal Mart in Spruce Pine, NC has both Mobil 1 and Penzoil in 5W-20 (both full syn)... 4.88 and 4.52 a quart respectively...if you use anything other than 5W-20 Ford/Mercury does not have to honour your warranty...it is a drain back issue while engine is under extented wide open throttle the tall head design of overhead cams do not allow oil to drain back fast enough if higher vis...willie
