My air compressor has always been noisy as hell. For the last couple of weeks it has been so quiet that I can barely hear it. A fuse was replaced for it, and I tested it today by sitting on the edge of the trunk and sure enough the car rear raised us up, but where it used to sound like a little air hammer now it is silent.

I know it's up under the front drivers fender well. Only thing I have done up there is fab a clamp for my CAI to hold it all in place, so now there is virtually no movement, but I remember the loud noise from when it was brand new.

Guess I won't worry about it as it seems to be working fine now, (and I know they did not change the compressor), but it's just puzzling. I was used to the drone of it evertime I started the car, and now I don't hear a thing. (?)

Your compressor muffler may have been disconnected, and they hooked it back up. Yes there is a muffler. It's a while box with a black rubber hose attached in the vicinity of your air box. It has to be relocated when installing some intake kits, like the K&N.

Here's what it looks like:

When I was working on my CAI a few weeks ago (with Torino Dan's huge help), I moved this hose around several times. It was at an odd angle and I left it in place but moved the hose so it wasn't bent so much. I now have the JLT heat shield and it presses gently against this hose, kind of holding it in place. Must have been blocked somehow before because of the bend. The things you learn on this list!

Thanks for the great info Donny!
