I thought you might be interested in the vitals on the first real road trip I've been on with the MM since I got it last October.

Herndon, VA to Bloomington, IN and back
700 miles out on Friday
700 miles back on Monday
MPG from just below 24 to about 25 (very good)
2 adults & 2 kids with half full trunk
cruise control on between 65 and 75 mph
just normal cruising with minimal hammering
A/C on most of the time
gasoline prices between $2.25 and $2.50 (premium)
gasoline cost for trip, $147 (yikes!)

A great! highway car which handled perfectly and was very comfortable to drive and ride. Steering was great, stock tires were fine (except I caught a screw in a front tire which luckily is not losing air yet). No abnormal tire behavior or wear. Car went from 11500 miles to about 13000 on the odo.

My trip to Fairbanks, Alaska(one way), ran up to $1000 in fuel costs. Canada's $.97-1.05 per liter didn't help.

Jon, thanks for the info on your road trip. The comfort aspect is getting to be more and more important as my body continues to age.

That 10.5 cents per mile figure is good for a current planning estimate for similar road trips !!! Thanks !! :D

I'm with you on that one, Jon, I've yet to see another MM on the road, except when we're traveling with the guys. Barb keeps seeing 'em "there's one, there's one" she'll say. ..........Nope see the tail lights going the whole way accross? It's just a GM.

Thanks for posting your data, as it's very much like what we're doing on trips. It seems to like that 65 - 75 speed slot best.

Just did a similar trip from Wisconsin to New Jersey, 960 miles each way with 3 kids in the back seat and a DVD play strapped between the headrests. EZ drive even in traffic when cutting thru downtown Chicago and across the I-90 Skyway.

BTW, gas in N.J. two weeks ago was $2.17 for premium (it's $2.55 here in Southeast Wisconsin). Saw only one Marauder (black on Ohio Tpk) the whole time.
